I normally make buttercream using my KA stand mixer. When I go home to Toronto for Christmas my mother and MIL don't have stand mixers but they do have food processors/electric hand mixers.

Can you make buttercream with a food processor/hand mixer?

I am thinking of making the Chocolate Decorator Buttercream and a similar version in white (trying to go with all butter and no shortening).

I don't know about a food processor but you can use a handmixer. A handmixer is all I have and that's what I use to make buttercream. I've used KA in class and the handmixer is a bit more tedious, but can be done.

Yes, you can make buttercream icing with a hand mixer. Please remember that you might have to scrape the bowl more frequently.

I've actually made IMBC with a $30.00 hand mixer. It turned out just as well.

I have burned up 2 hand mixers because I was to lazy to pull out the KA.

It is tedious as praetorian2000 said.

Can you make the BC ahead and take it with you?
