I'm so excited ...My husband will be coming home from Iraq the first week in september. I can't wait. He had been there for 3 months, which is nothing compared to the 2 and 3 terms some have been doing, but I'm so glad to have him coming home. I'm planning a huge cook out for family and friends, but I have no idea what to do for his cake. I mean i don't want it to be to girly with pink flowers and big bows.... any ideas for a Welcome Home Cake?
Thanks
That's great! I can feel your excitement all the way from Texas! I'll stew on cake ideas but wanted to say wooo hoo first!

Congrats, my best friend is back tomorrow, I cant wait ist been 6 months. I hope you have a lovely time.
How awesome for you and your family!!! Please thank him for his service, I know your so proud. I am seven months into a 15 month deployment and so I know how stressful and taxing it can be. Between 3 kids, a cake businsess and a husband in Iraq- I feel like so days I am in the twilight zone!! But God is good and there is a light at the end of this tunnel.
All you ladies out there who want to stick your husbands head in your kitchen aid somedays- give him a hug and be thankful he comes home and say a prayer for those on he frontlines and the homefront heroes left behind!!
PS he isn't gonna care what the cake looks like- unles your the one covered in butter cream!!! hhaha
hey girl i feel your joy , my husband was in balad afb the most dangerous base in iraq for 4 months , 2yrs ago and it was crazy. The only thing is I didn't invite anyone to our house which was then also in SC only in sumter (boring boring boring compared to my home city Philly ) but anyway I wanted that time to just be able to hug him for hours... Wait until you see him come off of the plain, I don't know if I'm a punk but I was crying tears of joy when I left the house to go pick him up . Then he got mad at me b/c when I saw him I couldn't stop crying lol b/c he said I cry when he got home but not when he left. But when he left I knew he was scared I mean who wouldn't be and I didn't want to add to it.
But now he's in korea for a year and he'll get back in january. Now I know this time I will cry for days prior to him coming home and I know I will great him coming off the plain with like 10 Cheesesteaks lol. Can you tell we are philly natives. Sorry not a cake ... I'll make him tons of cakes once we get to italy , which is our next location. I am so excited for you. The only thing is I know to probably expect him to do another tour the way our dearest Bush has screwed us. But hey he likes the military and our 4yr old loves "dad's airplanes" so what can I do ?????
good luck
and enjoy your time with him, DON't cry as much as me......
How about a yellow ribbon cake? Or a fancy looking flag cake? Or a cake with the seal from his branch of the military?
Glad he's coming home safe . My little brother is over there now and won't be home until next year!
Good luck with your cake, be sure to post pictures!
Yay for homecoming celebrations! My husband is also due back from Iraq next month after his second tour, and I came on here to get some cake ideas. I want to make a cake to give to his Marines when they get home since many of them won't have family coming in.
You could make a cake that has to do with his specific job. For example, if he works in communications you could make a radio, or if he is a driver, you could do a humvee, or a plane for a pilot. Or, since many service members refer to Iraq as "The Sandbox" you could make a cake to look like a sandbox with toys and shovels and then say "Welcome Home from The Sandbox," or something like that. You could use colored granulated sugar as the sand. Another possibility is a cake shaped like a cammie blouse that shows his name tapes, branch of service, and rank. That could be a little hard to do if he wears one of the new digital-pattern uniforms, though. An easy way around that would be to make the cake look like a flack jacket (semi-bullet-proof vest), which would also have his name and rank. You can probably look around online for pictures of these things.
Good luck, and marcimang is right...your husband won't care about the cake when he sees you!

OOH! I though of something else! You could make a cake to look like a rearview mirror, with a picture of Iraq in it. I've seen mugs that say "Happiness is...Iraq in my rearview mirror," so this might be a cute take-off of that.
Thanks for all the ideas and well wishes. Marcimang i may have to take your suggestion on the butercream... I know he would love that!!!
Wow, I would be way too excided to even attempt a cake. You wouldn't bea able to get me to sit still long enough. Congrats on hubby comming home and make sure you thank him for alll of us for keeping us safe and free.
First off, congrats! I know you're looking forward to having your honey home!
Do you have any kids? I was thinking about a cake made about him, not really remembering where he's been. Maybe a cake with his favorite things, hobbies, memories etc. Sometimes my child has the better ideas than I do when it comes to making my DH's cake.
If you want to do a welcome home, I vision a road with shrubs, and a house at the end of the road. A large Welcome Home banner is in the front yard.
Good Luck!
