I am a fairly inexperienced cake maker. I love the look of fondant, but I have only used Wilton brand and it taste awful.. Any suggestions on what to use that has a good taste to it. Some kind of recipes would be greatly appreciated. What works well and taste good?? Thanks for your help..
mmf marshmellow fondant put in mmf in the seach there is a complete explanation of it, how it's made and how to use I love it i'm sure you will too good luck!!!!
MMF is easy to make & cheap and tastes much better than Wilton. Satin Ice is good too although its pricey, but worth it to not have to make it lol.
if you do not want to make the mmf you can buy the pettinice brand fondant. its nice. you can also add some of the candy oils to flavour it if youd like.
I have used Satin Ice and FondX and they are the best I have tried. They are more expensive than making your own but for me it is more convient (sp?) and consistent. You can get free samples of both to try for taste and texture.

Satin Ice and MMF are both wonderful! MMF is easy to make, but Satin Ice is ready to go and yummy at the same time! It also comes chocolate which is really yummy!
I used raspberry candy flavouring to improve the taste on my 1 and only fondant cake but it tasted much, much better with that addition...
Do you purchase both of these items Satin Ice and FondX here on this site? if not, where do you purchase it from? Thats for the tips, I absolutely hate the taste of Wiltons fondant. Thanks
Wilton is horrible--blech!
I just used FondX for the first time. I love it! It tastes quite good--has kind of a neutral sweetness to it, if that makes any sense--and has no weird aftertaste or chemical taste to it. It handles well, too, and has a beautiful finish. Best of all, you can refrigerate a cake covered in it! I just made a 3 tier cake covered in it (the green and white cake in my photos) and kept all three tiers in the fridge overnight with no ill effects.
You can order it online at www.caljavaonline.com. They are the manufacturer. It cost me $31.60 for a 10 lb bucket, plus 8.95 shipping. Including shipping, that's about $4/lb, which is the same as a 5lb box of Wilton costs at my local Michael's store. I think it's pretty reasonable, especially for such a good product.
My local cake supply store carries Pettinice, and I tried it once, but had awful tearing problems with it. I think the FondX tastes better, too.
I agree that MMF tastes good, but I don't like the finish as much as other fondants and it's hard for me to get a good consistency with it.
Wilton makes a lot of decent products, but their fondant is NOT one of them! I would only use it for decorations that I'm sure would not be eaten.
