How do I wrap a board in fondant?

Will it stick directly on the board? Or do I need to ice & smooth the board in buttercream first in order for the fondant to stick?

I used piping gel to attach the fondant to the board when I did it. Also used a little underneath to attach to the underside of board.
Check out my Flag cake and you'll see an example..
Good luck!

I just run a damp cloth over the board, then flip the fondant on and smooth it, it will stick immediately
