I just found this forum a couple days ago and have been reading, reading, reading and drooling over all those awesome creations! I decorated cakes about 25+ years ago when kids started coming then got away from it when they outgrew wanting mom to make their cake. Nothing professional at all.
This spring I gave my dil cake lessons at Michaels for her birthday gift because she seemed to like doing that and has 3 little boys. I took the class with her and my how things have changed. We had a blast. Took course 2 as well and are looking forward to course 3 this fall.
I've posted my first attempts in my album. At first I wasn't going to but hey you have to start somewhere and hopefully we'll see improvement as time goes on. I finished the poinsettia cake this morning as practice and this afternoon have piped about 60+ miniature calla lilies. I always wanted to make my daughters wedding cake but realize now I couldn't do that at this point so I'm making the decorations to go on the sheet cakes. Wedding is in October so that'll give me a good bit of time to get them looking decent.
I'm sure I'll have tons of questions as time goes on. My goal is to take my onestroke painting techniques and continue to apply those to make cakes hopefully featuring landscapes and animals - my favorites to paint.
Welcome back! I took a couple one stroke type classes also hoping to use it on cakes. I haven't had a chance to try it yet but i've seen other cakes that turned out beautifully using it.
Good luck to you!
Hi Cathy! It looks like you are off to a good start...Your cakes look great! I love the way the painted one looks. I never thought about doing it. The next thing I want to try is airbrush...then maybe painting! Welcome to CC!
It looks like your off to a great re-start!
Can you share some details on your painting technique? What materials are you using? Are you painting on buttercream or fondant? Your cakes look great!
That's awesome! You're cakes look great.
Welcome to CC. Your cakes are pretty. I make cakes only for my family on special occasions. And I don't have any formal training. But through constant practice and with the help of our CC family I can say that my works are improving. And take note..this forum is addicting lol
Hi Cathy, Welcome to CC! Your cakes look great. Keep up the great job! That's great that you gave your DIL cake decorating classes for her birthday. You just gave me an idea for my new DIL. Her birthday is this month and she helped me do my daughter's sweet 16 cake (haven't posted it yet) and she had a blast. She had previously learned some decorating techniques in a high school culinary class, and I think I'll give her classes for her birthday. Thanks for the idea! Janice
