I LOVE butavan and creme royale. The last time I purchased them, I bought them from sugarcraft but if you've seen Heath's warning, you may not want to give sugarcraft any more business. But they are a nice option for something else.

Hi! Okay I will chime in... I don't have a lot of experience. But I just purchased a new flavoring emulsion at my local cake shop. It is called Princess Cake & Cookie Bakery Emusion. It is made by Lorann. I used some in icing over the weekend and my 16yr old niece really complimented the flavor. I bought it at Cake Carousel in Richardson- <cakecarousel.com.>

HTH. I will be watching this thread because I have been wondering the same thing.

www.earlenescakes.com has butavan as well as Orange, Lemon and Strawberry imulsions...the price is pretty reasonable as well. thumbs_up.gif

My vote is for Butavan as well. It makes everything taste yummy! I use it in all recipes that call for vanilla.

Here is a question? Are these flavorings clear in color? And if not what do you do if you need a white frosting.? THanks

All the flavorings I use are clear or cloudy pale yellow, so they all no color to icings.

I make Sugarshack's bc icing recipe.....it is a big batch of icing (5 pounds of PS), to flavor it I use......4 tlbs. of Wilton Butter Flavoring & 1 tlb. of French Vanilla Blend Flavoring, these flavorings were got at Wal-Mart.

I sometimes use 1 tlb. of Butava in my cake mixes, my family & friends likes the flavor in the cakes with the icing done in the flavoring combo above.

I have also use Cotton Candy by Lorann ( I think I order it from cakesnthings.com sorry I can't remember ) in some royal icing for some cookies once for my grand daughters birthday party. They tasted pretty good. I havn't tried it in my bc icing yet.

I would like to try these Flavors:

1. Wedding Bouquet Emulsion ( A Flavoring Sugarshack uses, heres a link to that thread..... http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopict-418353-.html )

2. Vanilla Nut Butter Oil ( My sister get this from a cake shop in Lorain, Ohio called Mary's Sweet Shop.

God Bless,
Sharon

I use Magic Line cream bouquet in my cakes and icing. I only add a few drops along with vanilla and it just adds a little something. I recently purchased some birthday cake flavoring and I have only used it once but it was good also. It smells like a bakery.

omg my head is spinning with all the possibilities. i'm so excited to try all of them. thank yal so much. cc peeps are the best!! icon_biggrin.gifthumbs_up.gif

Is it too late to add mine? I've been making a scratch yellow cake for the past few years and only recently started adding different flavorings besides vanilla. WOW, I love the McCormick flavors, coconut and raspberry are my absolute favorites. It's very light, doesn't overwhelm the cake and goes great with just plain bc. I have also tried the banana but it is too strong while their strawberry was underwhelming (is that a word?). I tried their Vanilla butter and nut too and found that it made my cake taste like grocery store cake-no no no-no good at all.

i was given a sample of the powdered flavouring that Adams do, i got their best vanilla in powder, it is great, the smell alone is yummy, even my 15 yr old son commented on what the lovely smell was. i need to get more, you can buy it from their website.

CEC3 Posted 22 Aug 2007 , 5:22pm

sweetcakes

Brickflor, is the vanilla nut & butter flavor you tried the McCormick's extract or the vanilla nut & butter flavor oil from Mary's Sweet Shop?

God Bless,
Sharon

Brickflor Posted 23 Aug 2007 , 2:45pm

It's McCormick's.

azeboi2005 Posted 23 Aug 2007 , 2:56pm

for those of you who use oil flavorings do you put the same amount as an extract? just wondering cause i know that oils can be more pungent than a regular extract.

grannys3angels Posted 23 Aug 2007 , 3:01pm

Thanks Brickflor for your reply.

No and don't try it, believe me! icon_lol.gif Just use them in drops because the flavor is very concentrated - some more than others. I generally use about 5-7 drops in my BC or cake depending on how strong it is.

The oils I use and like are: champagne, cheeseake, amaretto, bavarian creme, coffee, banana and strawberry.

I need to buy more, I'm out of my favs!

azeboi2005 Posted 23 Aug 2007 , 6:03pm

thanks for the clarification, i guess i knew that just wasn't a 100% sure. it's one of those duh things, but i needed to be said rather than drawing the conclusion. icon_wink.gif

Ironbaker Posted 23 Aug 2007 , 6:47pm

I completely understand. My "duh" moment didn't clear up until after I'd already tried it with the full measurement as other extracts. icon_lol.gif

Grody.

Do you still use vanilla when you use other flavorings?
