hey guys, new to the club and so exited. I'v been asked to make a cake for a baptism and thought about making the gift box cake. hope you guys can give me some advice on how to construct the cake. I would really appreciate it. thanks so much, and happy baking.
Welcome to CC!
I've not made this cake yet, but I think that if you make square cakes and put them on boards that are exactly the same size, you'll do fine.
Be sure to put supports in the cake below to hold the next box. You can either alternate the boxes or stack in a perfect stack....depending on the look you want.
Now, for offset lids....I'm not sure about that. Hopefully this post will bump your question back to the top so others may comment...
Good luck!
Offset lids can be made of cake and just set up on dowells at an angle, but most people just make these out of dummies or fondant and let it dry hard. It's a lot easier and you don't have to worry about dumping a cake!
The bows are usually fondant/gum paste. Cut the strips and then glue the ends together with vanilla or gp adhesive, then stuff them with tissues to hold their shape and let them dry. If you want little dots or other shapes on the ribbons, do this before you glue and form them.
