My mom asked me to do a cake for her chiropractor and she wanted a spinal column? Any ideas where to start on this one?

It will depend on how much time and effort you want to put into this cake. You could 3D pipe it with BC, you could hand mold it with fondant, or you could use an edible image. Probably lots more ideas out there. Good luck

if up to doing all the modeling w/ fondant/gumpaste or modeling chocolate.

make a whole series of individual vertebra out of cupcakes laying on their side.

then arranged to make spinal column.

will have to make the "tail" out of just the fondant/gumpaste or modeling chocolate.

Maybe make it look like an x-ray of a spinal column?

Wow. Some of those pics were graphic but I guess it would give a good idea for a spinal cake.

I don't have any spine ideas -- but if it were me, I'd likely do something more like the chiropractor logo...

Could you stack a bunch of mini round cakes on some annealed wire so it would be flexible enough to bend into shape, but strong enough to support the cakes? Then cover it in fondant, etc. and use molded gumpaste for the detail/shape of each vertebra?
Just and idea.

Good luck! thumbs_up.gif

AI know this is uber late but I just found this site and tons of cool ideas I did a cake for a friend's doc used marzipan for the spine simply pinched the spinal column to make the bombs and bumps on the vertebrae. So maybe just like me this will help someone new.:-)[IMG][/IMG]
