I'm doing a small german choc cake for a wedding cake just for the couple and they want german chocolate but they want it decorated like a baseball diamond. Is there any reason I couldn't do the german chocolate cake with the german pecan/coconut topping as the filling and then frost with regular buttercream??

Need input ASAP please!
TIA!!

I dont see why not. I made a German Chocolate torted cake once with coconut/pecan frosting as the filling. As for the Buttercream Frosting you can leave it as is or even flavor it with a coconut/pecan flavor to match the taste of the rest of the cake. Either way it sound's good.

Ooh I didn't think of that - flavoring the frosting too. Thanks!

Absolutely. One of my most popular is cakes is german chocolate 4 layer (2 torted cakes) filled with the pecan/coconut filling and mocha buttercream icing. For a more traditional look I leave the sides bare and add mocha b/c borders. For a decorated cake I ice and decorate the entire cake in the mocha b/c, using the pecan/coconut for the filling. Go for it!
