I almost wept for joy last night. Seriously!
I have to do my first major cake in a few weeks and was having the WORST time getting my smooth ice correct. I was waking up every morning halfway to an anxiety attack wondering what the heck I was going to do.
After reading several very good tips in these forums, I put salt in my half butter/half shortening buttercreme, used the icing tip, smoothed with a warm offset spatula, used the viva and fondant smoothing method and then the computer paper and lo and behold...perfection!!! Seriously. Perfect. Not a line. Not a crumb. Perfect edges. I hate to cut into this cake!
Thank you all for sharing your wonderful tips. I'll be hanging out here quite a bit, I think.
