I have cookies that I'm trying to ice in Antonia's Royal Icing and the bowl of black is more purple. I don't have time to get Americolor ....I just have Wilton right now. Any ideas on how to fix this? I have sun cookies and want to put black sunglasses on them. I've searched the archives but nothing besides Americolor is coming up. Thanks so much!

Try adding some brown to it.

You can also add some dark blue or green to it. If it starts getting too thin, add some cornstarch to absorb some of the liquid.

Royal icing will become blacker (truer) if you leave it overnight.

Yes I would add a tad more black and then let it set....that will always deepen reds and black.

Whenever I have white frosting which I need black, I add cocoa powder so that it is brown. Then I add the black from there until I get my desired shade. It has worked like a charm for me!

The cocoa powder trick seems to work for me also. It doesn't seem to taste as bad either.
