Anybody out there from DFW area? I am looking for a cake supply store in the area.

I know there is one in Richardson - Cake Carousel. But that is pretty far for me to drive if I need something on a whim. There are also a couple gourmet food stores in Arlington but they have mostly Wilton stuff.

Bianca,

Great store--Char's Cake Fixins on Crowley Road less than a block south of I-20 in Fort Worth.

Char not only offers a large array of cake supplies, but also decorating classes.

I used to live in Arlington and this is where I would go. I hadn't heard of Char's Cake Fixins but it is still pretty far from where I live now which is by Eagle Mountain Lake. The only thing I have around here is a Hobby Lobby. I guess that is what I get for moving so far out of the city.

Does Char offer luster dusts and americolors? I was actually planning on making a trip out for that today. Do you have store hours?

Thanks.

Bianca--
There is also "The Sale Place" just off of 635/Elam exit.
It has lots of cake stuff, flowers and school spirit making things.
Try googling or look under www.thedaleplace.com.

I will check to see if that's the right website addy.

I finally made my way to Char's and I would not go there for the luster and pearl dust. Their selection is very limited and I couldn't figure out what kind of dust they were. Elizabeth has a much better selection of dust and had exactly what I needed.

I bought some fondant at Char's and it seemed reasonable to me. $21 for 5 lb Pettinice and Americolor was $1.20 for the small bottle.

This was in a recent Thread:

In case you are in the DFW area and didn't know, we do have a major bakery distributor. It's Merchant's Bakery Supply and it's located on Gardenbrook in Dallas just south of Belt Line and North of 635 off of Webb Chapel. Minimum orders are about $25 I think.

The only thing is that you have to have a TAX id number.

Hi, I got Merchant's address from Google search. They are at 3113 C Gardenbrook, and their phone is 972-247-8282. They are shown as distributors for Luck's and several other brand manufacturer's.
This is fairly close to me, and I do have a Tax ID, so maybe I'll get a chance to check them out before too long. Janice

OOPS, I just saw that they filed for bankruptcy in 2004! Nobody answers the phone today, I'll try calling them on Monday and see if they are still in business. Janice

I get things from Merchant's all the time - their prices are well worth the drive even from Arlington! I've ran into problems with Char's lately, just not having much in stock, and her dusts are kind of pricey ($6 vs. Merchant's $3). Merchant's is only open M-F and I think on Friday's close at 4:30, otherwise open til 5.

Hope this helps!

I live in Grand Prairie, and I have always found EVERYTHING that I need at Elizabeth's and it is a very short drive from Arlington. Straight up 157 to Hwy 10 turn right go to Ector turn left its on the left just up the street!!! If she doesn't have what your looking for she will get it for you!!! She is awesome!!!

Yeah, I've usually been able to find things at Elizabeth's. I just like having some place local to get wholesale prices from (Merchant's) but like it said in a previous reply, you do have to have a tax id in order to purchase from them. So that helps a great deal for us home based biz - gotta pinch pennies where you can!!

Thanks for posting a list of area suppliers. I think I might head over to the Saleplace today. I've been thinking about it for a while just haven't done it. I went there a couple of times last year when we were planning our wedding. I did puruse the cake stuff but wasn't into it then. I need a cake box for my first cake order!!! Woo Hoo!!!! Let's just hope I can control myself or the dh will kill me...lol. icon_twisted.gif
