I want to use gold luster dust to paint. I have read on here that some people have mixed it with vodka. Do you have to use vodka or can use use just water. What does the vodka do to the consistency or effect?
And how much vodka do I mix with how much dust?

Water won't do what you want, the vodka is used because the alcohol causes it to evaporate quickly.
Everclear is even better because there's more alcohol.
It won't affect your taste and the alcohol is gone once it's dry.

Some people use vanilla or lemon extract (not juice) because that is mostly alcohol too.

How much is going to depend on what you're trying to do with it.
I normally add a little everclear at a time until I get it thick enough to cover what I'm doing. It isn't an exact science because you will have to keep adding more alcohol as it evaporates.
