I am doing two cakes this week and need a lavender color for both. I am usin Wilton gel, Violet, which has always worked before. Now, all my icing does is turn blue!
Thought I had a defective bottle, so I made an emergency trip to walmart for a new bottle. I colored my royal icing the most beautiful shade of lavender, but my icing still turns blue, not purple!
I am using the class buttercream, crisco, powdered sugar, vanilla, almond flavoring and water.
Anybody out there with any ideas ? I really need some help before I lose my slight grip on my sanity!

Thanks,
Charmed1

Add a little bit of pink to it. I just had that happen to a wedding cake I did. Worked good for me. HTH.

The chart I use says to use 5 parts pink to 1 part violet = lavender.

Thank You Joann! My husband is trying your suggestion right now! Thank God for him, I am too frazzled to keep trying. I did add "some" pink and blue, what a mess!
Does anyone know why I am having this problem?

Thanks ,

Your welcome. I'm not sure but I think the violet has a blue base to it. I'm probably wrong there. Now if someone could help me figure out what to mix to get a kiwi green, I'd be ecstatic. LOL. I have a bride who's colors are orange, raspberry and kiwi.
