The lady that manages our Michael's lives in Lafayette. I could ask her if it would be possible to rent their facility for a day. I'm not sure if we could do it for the better part of the entire day though. If not, we need a place that would have a sink where we could wash our tips, decorating bags, etc.

I wish I had a larger home because I'd just say we'd have it there, but I live in a smaller apartment that just wouldn't be large enough for all of us icon_sad.gif

I also live in Lafayette. There are two rooms at Michael's they aren't very large. Crafts are held for kids not sure if they are every Sat.

Maybe, a restaurant? I don't know where we could get a place for free.

Any word yet?

I will email my friends who use to live in Lafayette. Maybe she'll know of another place to suggest.

I spoke with an assistant manager at the Michael's where I work and she said she didn't think they'd let us use the room unless it would be Wilton related like teaching classes etc.... that or some type of party (birthday) ... so guess that's out... not sure what else they have around in Lafayette... there has to be something that if not free, at a low cost ... we need something that has a sink/kitchen to wash things ... I'll ask some of my former co-workers in that area too to see if they know anything or any place we could meet .. maybe a church? or a reception hall ??

Maybe we could plan it for November sometime? In the Lafayette location? Is anyone a member of a church there that maybe we could borrow the fellowship hall/kitchen to use? We could sign waivers of no liability to them if someone was hurt/injuried. We could also sign an agreement to clean the premises where the meeting was held back to it's "before meeting" condition.

What do you all think?

I'm Originally from the New Orleans area now living in Picayune MS (just 6 miles over the state line, a 45 min drive to NO) So i am claiming DUAL citizenship since i technically live in MS but i have the mindset of a LA girl!

I'm a working single momma too, so i dont get as much time to do cakes as i would like either and i doubt i can make it to your DOS because i have 2 kids on travel soccer teams ('nuff said!) but y'all go ahead and have a frosty beverage for me, ok?

Ok, I finally caught the store manager in at Michaels. She said they charge $25 for 2 hours at Michaels and the room in Lafayette was bigger than the one in Lake Charles. Not sure if anyone would want to pitch in a couple of dollars each and rent the room for maybe 4 hours or so .. that'd be $50.. if 5 people came, that'd be $10 each ... let me know what you all think... we can keep trying to find a place for free but not sure if there are any icon_sad.gif

I lived in Baker Louisiana for 18 years and then moved to Florida. I miss Louisiana so much and all the wonderful friends I had there. Kim from Zachary, I worked in there for 8 years and my daughters were born at Lane Hospital. I learned how to do cakes while living there. You girls make me home sick

I need to get a number of how many are seriously interested in renting the room at Michaels in Lafayette. It should hold about 15-20 people if we have that many ... we can rent the room for 2 hours at a cost of $25 ... we can add 2 hours for $25 and do this for however many hours we would need the room ... please pm me if your are seriously interested in attending and let me know and how many hours you think we should rent to room for... we can divide the cost up amongst us and it wouldn't be so pricey to pay for ... I can call and reserve the room for dates we decide on and see if we can pay for the room when we all get there ..

Ok ladies of Louisiana!! I think we've decided on having the Louisiana DOS at Michael's in Lafayette. The room rents for 2 hours @ $25.00 ... I feel we'd need a miniumum of 4 hours and no less than that and possibly 6 hours ... I need to know for sure who really wants to come to this... I don't want to go through reserving the room if you're not really planning to attend.... we can all split the cost of the room which would be between $50-$75 ... if 5-10 people come, the cost for this wouldn't be a lot at all ... We can all decide what we'd like to learn or practice on, do an agenda with that putting someone in the group as the demonstrator for it, etc. etc.... by doing this, you'll know what all you need to bring with you as far as tips, types of icing, etc.... Please let me know what you think, if you're planning to attend either by posting here or pm me... We're looking at a couple of weekends in November... if we can't get it scheduled for then, we may push it back to January giving everyone time to recover from the holidays and time to keep your calenders open with a date... I was thinking a Saturday would be better as most of us work weekdays... but I'm open for any suggestions!!

I plan on attending. Whatever my share of the fee is, I'd be glad to contribute. The weekends in Nov. are 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th. So what is more convenient for everyone a Saturday or a Sunday??? I vote for a Sat. So my vote is for either Nov. 4th or Dec. 2nd (the first wk.end in Dec.) This is why...
Nov. 4th may be too short notice for some of you, IDK.
Nov. 11th everything will be very crowded - stores, traffic for Veteran's Day.
Nov. 18th is the big jewelry show in N.O. that I know many ppl go to.
Nov. 25th is after TG (Thanksgiving). I'm sure everyone will be busy, tired, stuffed, and have family in town.
I'm just trying to help narrow the window of time here. I may have over-analzye it the situation though. LOL! C'mon my fellow Louisianaians give us your opinions so things can get rolling along.
Hope everyone has a great day.

Nooooooooooooo Kryysoco... I value all input on this!! We all need to be in agreement as to the date.... I want to see if the room is available when we do confirm the date we want to have it...

nola wants to attend also but can't wait until January to do so... so we may be looking at December...

Kim2368, how would December look for you?

rshippo, how about December? Could you come then?

Anyone else?? I'm going to Lafayette on Saturday and I can go by Michaels to reserve the room if we know the definite date. Let me know please!!!

P.S. How does Saturday, December 2nd or 9th look for everyone???

Thanks everyone!! We're going to have a lot of fun!!!

Hi
The 2nd or the 9th december sounds great to me. I would love to do nov but most of the weekends are already booked up for me.
I really want to come so either of those dates sounds great to me. Also what time are we going to start I was thinking mid morning and onwards to allow everyone who needs to travel to travel.

Looking forward to it already.

What about 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m?? Or would you all prefer starting at 1:00 p.m. and go for 4 hours until 5:00 p.m.?? Any of these times are good for me... I'm an hour and a half away from Lafayette so it's not too far for me to travel. Just let me know!

So does December 2nd from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. work for everyone interested? Let me know and I'll reserve the room at Michaels on Saturday if it's available to use... For 4 hours, the cost would be $50 ... then we need to brainstorm and decide what all we'd like to share/show others ... do one of you want to poll others to see what we'd like to share and learn from one another?

Hi I would love to come on the 2nd 1-5pm will put it in my diary.
What is it that most people specialise in and where do people feel they need to learn more??
I am more experienced in fondant more novalty than flowers. Buttercream is new to me since moving here from overseas.
So I would like to learn more buttercream stuff and also any information on what kinds of cakes are popular in louisiana.
I can offer info on OZ and the UK.
