Your Under Noticed Cakes....link Here!!

I would only be doing some constructive criticisms if and only if it might be needed. I would never say anything mean. I guess in my world I would say something nice then constructive and then I always end on a nice note again! That is just me. But I like to be both positive and constructive. If someone wanted to ask a question about what I said I would have no problem clarifying or apologizing if they were offended. That is not my intentions and I don't think it would be anyone's intention!
Except for my igloo cake I had gotten quite a few views before I realized my comments got turned off mysteriously.
I'm just learning so I know they aren't great but I could definitely use constructive criticism and pointers. So we'll give it a go again!

Thanks for this great thread. It's fun seeing cakes that we might have missed when they were first posted. And these are all some fabulous cakes guys! Great job!

What a great idea! I'm a pretty mediocre decorator, but I was pretty pleased with myself for coming up with this diaper cake. I though the other pamper/huggies cakes were cute, but the diapers didn't look like diapers to me. So... I came up with my ow design and it tured out great!
Here's the link to my pack of Swaddler Pampers cake:

I also came up with this space shuttle cake. I don't carve cakes, but I did a jelly roll cake for this and they LOVED it:

people can probably execute them better than I did, but I was just proud to design them!

I just wanted to let everyone know I am going to be both positive and constructive when giving comments now! I think it will help! That is what you all are asking for and I would like to do that for some things that I find could use some help!
Some people are sensitive, though. I assume people are only posting the cakes they think are good ... unless they specifically ask for advice about it.
There was once a thread where somebody felt somebody was leaving mean comments to be hurtful. all the comments ended up edited or erased when she was criticized for it. Having not read the original comments; I can't really say whether she was leaving constructive criticism or whether she was truly being mean to that specific person.
I agree. in my personal opionion constructive critisism is fine if the person asks for it or eludes to the fact that they had trouble or needed help. Otherwise I would just point out something nice about the cake...or don't shoot me...don't comment. Maybe another cool thread idea would be to start a "constructive critisism needed" Link your cakes for feedback LOL!
My idea came from this thread because I kept seeing a bunch of threads lately where people are feeling badly about not receiving comments or views. People saying maybe they shouldnt bother posting cakes anymore, they are inferior to other decorators here, they are no good at decorating etc etc. I thought maybe some cakes needed a second chance to be noticed. Not so much meant for constructive critisism or forced feedback. Just another chance to be seen. There are so many cakes being uploaded to this site, it is difficult for them all to be noticed and receive many comments. So I just want everyone to be proud of their hard work and don't fret! No one wakes up on day and starts decorating like Duff or Colette! No one is inferior, it takes hard work, lots of practice and some natural talent I suppose! So my hope is the pity parties can stay at a minimum.
PLEASE, PLEASE PLEASE critique me, my skills, tell any tips or tricks. Let me know what you would add, subtract or just dont care for. This is why I post. I wanna be challenged and have to up my skills and how better to learn than let another decorator pick apart your work and evaluate with fresh eyes!
What a great thread, and great exposure for some under seen cakes. My favorite thing to do after I post a pic is to see how many views I get, and when I get a comment, It is sooo cool!!! Reminds me to leave comments on other people's cakes, too. Oh, and when I get added to someone's fav's, it's the best feeling in the world, well almost.
Ok, here is my work of art that I worried and worried over, asked for help and didn't get too many bites on and then just voila it came to me and out she pops.... I always seem to post questions at the wrong time of the day but someone usually comes to my rescuse, and it is always a glorious CCer... this puppy only got like 36 hits... so either it went under noticed or it really stunk... hopefully just undernoticed cause I thought it turned out pretty cool, considering I had a days notice thanks for looking... what a fun thread By the way!

Many views for some of them but very few comments.

Well, I know a lot of people don't want to hear criticism so I shy away from giving it, but I totally appreciate when I get it! So please do give me some. But do rest assured that I know when my fondnat has a wrinkle or my cake isn't perfectly smooth, that is not the critisism I am looking for, but more regarding the design of the cake.
Here are a couple more of mine. Most of my cakes get passed over so I have a lot that fit this category:
This one took me forever, the gardenias were one of my first times making gumpaste flowers and al the embroidery was free hand piping. It only got 3 comments.
http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=33587
I was pretty proud of the gumpaste tulips on this one, they were not easy yo make and I had never put gumpaste flowers on wire before, I must have cracked a dozen of them trying to wrap the wires:
http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=34095
I know this one is just a design from the Wilton book, but it took me forever to cut out and hand place all those little fish pieces, and I thought it came out really well:

WOW...so many great cakes. I surely missed some when they were under "New Photos."
I am really enjoying this new-found passion for cake/cookie decorating. My cakes/cookies don't seem to get a lot of comments either, but I am usually at least a little proud of them if I post a picture (there are some I've made that have NOT been uploaded!). Here are a few that I thought turned out pretty good.

Ok - here is the cake that took me the most time and caused me the most stress - but in the end, i was very pleased with the results.

I have a tough time accepting criticism, I can't help it. Most of my cakes are my original ideas. It's not a big deal if someone thinks it should have been done differently but unless asked for it, I don't give constructive criticism based on how I feel about receiving it myself.
lol-and here's one more if you guys don't mind taking a peek!
http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=758543
It was a practice cake, the 'real' one will have a chocolate bench with some teeny roses on top.
Oh my, I have spent at least 3 hours total, commenting on everyone's cakes!
These are just Fab and I can't believe they have been missed. All of mine seem to get missed (either that or they are just REALLY awful )
Here are a few others I enjoyed making:
I was really proud of the Bonnet

A HUGE Thank you to all who have posted comments!!!!!
Actually, this one is one that my mom decorated. It is only her second time and I think she did a great job! I did the drop strings on the side (I was practicing for my own 4th of July cake). Please let her know what you think

Here are a few of my cakes that have had lookers but very few comments. There's several more but these are some of my favs.
This is a cake that really went over quite well at my grandson's 5th birthday party.

Another I did for a very sweet friend.

Thank you for this thread; too many cakes were missed. I was making comments earlier on others and have many more to view!!!
And this is the last one I'll post

Can I like to them all? j/k
A couple of my favorites:
I did this for my sisters b-day this year:
http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=412183
Even though it didn't have a handle (made the choco fondant that day, I didn't know anything about fondant then, and it was brittle, and broke), or a decent pic of it, I've always loved this Easter Basket cake from a few years back:
http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=407933
And my topsy-turvey:

Don't be afraid to comment on any not listed!
TFL!
I think my cakes got lost in the 4th of july rush. Here are a few that I hold near and dear to my heart.
I spent nearly 12 hours baking cakes, and just as much time making buttercream and decorating this cake! Oh yeah, and 3 days making all those gumpaste accents (plus extras in case of breakage)
http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-photo_745033.html
I had the hardest time getting the buttercream smooth on this cake. I realized about 2 months after that I had the new 0 grams trans fat crisco in my cabinet and that was probably why!
http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-photo_656603.html
This was my first time playing with fondant. I haven't used MMF yet, but I think I'm trying that next because I used Wilton's fondant and it was so tough to work with and stiff! My arms ached for days from kneading in color!
http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-photo_656533.html
Thanks for looking and I love this thread!
I've been unable to keep up due to the sporadic nature of receiving notifications, but I will attempt to keep trying. When I look at new photos too I am now resolved to ensure I leave a comment when I'm saving it as a fav, and to take an extra moment, to really comment on ones that strike something in me, if it means a couple less get viewed, at least the ones I have will feel more appreciated.
Thank you to everyone that's been looking at mine to. Fantastic thread, has made me feel much better and I hope everyone else who has posted too!
241 views/6 favs/3comments this was my first big cake it was a lot of work
http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=572093

Helpful hint, some of you are posting your photo right on this thread. If people are going to leave comments, they must look at it IN THE GALLERY.
What a great thread. I can't wait until next week when I'm pretty much alone here at work and I can go back and look at all the cakes. The few I've seen have been wonderful!!!
Here's my offerings. Both with quite a few views but not a lot of comments.
This is the cake dearest to my heart - it was for my stepson and daughter in law. I just got to see the video and her expression when she saw it for the first time. It made me cry. She was so happy and the whole time they were cutting it she was talking about how much she loved it an that it had "sprinkles" inside...to honor her deceased father who got her hooked on sprinkles.

This was my first attempt at fondant modeling. I was pretty happy with everything but the fairies face...but the girls loved the cake and now they all want me to do their birthday cakes...

moochy720, were the lotus blossoms on your duck cake made with graduated cutters for thta specific flower?
jesaltuve, I made them with the plastic graduated daisy cutters that come with the wilton fondant & gumpaste course kit. the yellow petals were the medium cutter (3 layers) and the white petals were the large cutter (3 layers as well). Though I do want to get cutters that are for specific flowers eventually, it's something I SHOULDN'T be spending money on because I'm back in school. Hope that helps!
Thank you so much for starting this post! I have never had so many nice responses before! Now all my other pics are looking under noticed So how many comments are you guys getting on your pictures regularly?
