Covering Rice Krispies With Fondant

I need to cover some Rice Krispies with fondant but was wondering if you first put buttercream on the Rice Krispies. It would be nice if the sculpture could be eaten afterwards but not sure how buttercream would taste on Rice Krispies.
Any help is appreciated.

If you want a smooth surface - definately cover with either buttercream, or melted chocolate. I used melted white chocolate chips when I did it last time.
