Yesterday I made a cake in a square pan that was 14 inches long and 2 inches deep. I put 4 cake mixes in (and I think that was too much because it literally overflowed a bit in the oven). Anyway, to make a cake in a 14 inch circular pan that is 3 inches deep, how many cake mixes should I use? 4? 5? 6? Please let me know what you think. Thanks.

Here's the Wilton chart that shows how much batter for different size/shape 3" high pans: http://www.wilton.com/cake/cakeprep/baking/times/party_3inch.cfm

According to the chart, a 14" round 3" high pan will need 15 cups batter. Each cake mix will yield different amounts of batter, especially if you doctor the mix, so measure yours and calculate how many mixes to make 15 cups. icon_smile.gif

The chart for 2" high pans is this: http://www.wilton.com/cake/cakeprep/baking/times/party_2inch.cfm

I just used a 14" x 3" round cake pan lastnight, and I used 3 DH cake mixes, however it wasn't quite all the way full once baked. I think 4 might be too much and have the same problem of over flowing. For my next one I will try just 3 and a half. and just use the rest for cupcakes or something.
