For those of you who've done the pregnant belly cake, did you board and dowel under the belly part? I can't tell from the pictures or threads I've read and I'm about to start my first one!

I put the belly and breast on a small separate board, cut to size, and put it on top of a sheet cake. I did not use dowels since it was not heavy.

What type of pan do you use to make the body?

I used half of the sports ball pan for the belly and 2 of the egg shaped mini cakes for the breast. I also did the dress in 2 parts...much simpler. I made the dress and then covered the breasts and finished it off by putting a band between belly and breast as a ribbon.

Fun cake to make!!!!

I didn't board or dowel mine, but mine was decorated on site. The bottom was also pound cake so it was dense enough to with stand the weight of the other cakes. If I had been traveling with it I probably would have put straws through them.
