How Many Of You Have Supportive Husbands?
Decorating By casebit Updated 18 Jun 2013 , 3:59am by Drxkfairy
I just had to start this post because so many times I forget to tell my husband just how great he is to me!!! I just started cake decorating (teaching myself) this past December and boy does it take some time and money to get started. Through it all my husband has been very loving and supportive even though the whole time I was starting this new hobby we were building our new home. He has helped me with ideas, helped me deliver cakes, and never said anything about the money I have spent on supplies. We just moved in to our new home this past week, and yes, I had a cake to make and decorate during the move. He never once told me I was crazy for doing the cake during the hectic week. He truly is a loving and supportive husband! So ladies, here's to all the husbands out there who stand behind us and our cake decorating crazy moments!!! Just had to get this out there!!! Thanks for listening!

Good point!! Mine does support me in all things as well! I failed to mention that!! Thanks prettycake for bringing that to my attention!!!
I also have a great husband who supports me in whatever I want to try or do. As a matter of fact he is the one to tell me to go get this thing or that. He was the one who insist I have a Kopykake projector, and just last year he got me a edible image printer, and he is right there to help me to do whatever if I need him. I am one lucky wife...
Mine is supportive in that he's glad I've found a new creative outlet, and that I seem to have talent for it... however, he is extremely anal-retentive so he hates me trashing the kitchen! The other night he tried to impose a baking ban on me for a few weeks, but I said "Sorry dear, I'm already planning to make some petit fours for bunko this week!"
Mine is great too! He puts up with my shopping sprees, my many late nights and my frustrations too! He will also bake for me, give me lots of great ideas and will deliver too! I told him once that I have to get him to start decorating for me too--that's where he drew the line!
Ya'll keep helping me to remember things. Like Bumps said my husband bought me a Kitchen Aid mixer not long after I began doing cakes. He has also taken me to Michael's on many occasions knowing the only things I would buy would be for cakes. You ladies are helping me to remember all sorts of good things that I forgot to mention!
My husband is very supportive as well. He does not say anything about how much I spent on supplies. He justs asks to make sure I have enough money in my bank account to pay for all the things I buy! He helps me in the kitchen if I am rushed. He even asked me to teach him how to make buttercream roses because I hate to make them (he already helps me make fondant roses, lol).
mY HUSBAND SUPPORTS ME AS LONG AS HE DOES NOT HAVE TO HELP!
No really he actually wants me to start my own business but i do not hav ethe corage to do so so at this time he is on strike. He said whats the point in making all these cakes and putting the time and effort in doing them if you do not have a creation "business" to show for it. Oh well heres to all the great husbands in the world !
I have the best husband in the world, sorry guys. lol
He is my very best friend and has been for almost 20 years. He is also the smartest business person I know, the most honest, the hardest working, the best dad, my biggest supporter (and salesman), AND he's the sexiest thing I've ever seen. It just doesn't get any better!!
Here's to the DHs!
I am still a newbie to the decorating world but my husband is very supportive. He usually stays out of the kitchen until it is time to clean up and he is right there helping. He washes things while I clean up counters, table, etc.
I love my husband, Hes a great partner and the best father ever!!! but I feel like he doesnt support me with my hobbie, he roll eyes when I start talking about cakes, and he thinks I spend too much time decorating, he thinks 2 hours is too long to invest on a cake... He loves my cakes, and seems very proud of them but I dont know, maybe Its just me...
Last night my wonderful husband took me to Walmart, Michael's, and even Toys'R'Us looking for cake supplies. He is right there with me walking down every single isle (cake stuff or not) and finding creative things to use for decorating cakes. He is better at finding things to use than I am sometimes. He also told me he will buy me a KA if he can find a good deal. Maybe for Christmas.
Mine is great, too! His only downfall . . . and this is a biggie . . . he doesn't like cake. He never tries any of the cakes I make. But, he is very supportive of everything I do and every dream I want to chase so if that's his only shortcoming, I'd say I'm a pretty fortunate girl.
I've just started decorating, and so far, my husband has been a GEM. He's very supportive in anything I do, and this has been no exception to the rule.
When I'm getting frustrated because my hands hurt, he takes over and helps out to give me a rest. If I'm too tired to bake the cake, he'll do it for me (but I have to grease the pans, he HATES that part).
Most of all, he helps eat the cake!! I couldn't handle all this cake by myself. He likes it when I have to practice because that means cake and coffee on the couch together.
Up until I started the decorating I really didn't have a hobby and he has his computers, so this way it gives me something to occupy my time without him hearing "come spend time with me"
All in all, we're a good team and I'm happy to see that so many others have a good team mate on their side as well.
Hooray for the Hubbys!!!!
The other day we were having dinner with some friends and he told them that eventually he hopes for me to have my shop up and running and that he intends to run the shop with me. My jaw literally dropped to the ground. I knew he supported me through this whole thing and wanted me to serioulsy start going somewhere with it but never did I think he wanted to go through this with me. It just feels good that he believes in me enough to want that for me (for us).
My husband is great, too. Although he worries about the stress and pressure I put on myself when I decorate, he is the first one to compliment my work.
so far I don't see any husband/men bashers..and that's really good !! glad to see there is a lot of happy wives out there..
WOW what great stories you all have. I dod not have a hubby Its ok. I am just ticklied to hear you alls stories about your wonderful hubbies.
Hooray for the supportive DH's!!!!!
I've got a supportive boyfriend (hopefully, husband some day... ) The last cake I did he went with me to set up and took pictures while I worked. He also cut the dowel rods for me! LOVE him!
I do not have a husband at home. I'm living with oldest sister though and I have to say I am so spoiled! She is wonderful.
She does all my clean up after my classes. Cleans all the tips, bags, bowls and everything. She will wash my apron, towels and everything and pack them back up for my next class.
She brings me cake mixes, powdered sugar and Crisco and what ever else she finds when they are on sale so I don't run out.
She will bake cakes for me if I'm not going to be home. She will do whatever she can to help out.
That being said, she is all around wonderful. She does all the cleaning in the house. At times I will help by scrubbing the floor and so on but mostly she does it all. She does all my wash and irons everything. She does all the food shopping, brushes my dogs and brings me a glass of OJ every morning when I first get up. She is so NICE!
I've never met any other sister that does all that. I do however return the treatment to her and do tons of little things to make her life better and easier for her. The things she hates are things I don't mind at all. Like taking the dogs to the groomers, running errands, picking up dinner and so on. I have the easy stuff.
So it's not just wonderful husbands that help out. It's wonderful sisters too.
We just celebrated our 31st wedding anniversary and my hubby is still my best friend and my biggest supporter. He teases me about all the tools and books that I'm collecting but didn't hesitate to say yes when I wanted to go to Kerry Vincent's class in Jan. He's just the best.
Yes, I almost hesitated before starting this post, but so far so good. All these husbands deserve some credit!!! As I read through the posts, I know that there are lots of wonderful husbands out there, of course I'm biased when I say I married the best man on earth. From reading these posts, I'd have to say that many of you would say you married the best man on earth!!!! My husband also does help with the cleaning of the kitchen, eating the parts of the cake that get leveled off (chocolate is his favorite), and when I get frustrated and tired or I'm being too hard on myself, he's always there to help me along and keep my spirits up!! We really are truly blessed and fortunate! My love for my husband grows stronger with each passing day! He is truly my best friend!

Wow . . . I can tell you my sisters wouldn't do that for me! You are extremely lucky, as is she. Not many people have such supportive siblings!

Ahhh....so sweet. Congrats on 31 years
You all TREASURE your husbands sounds like you all are still in love. That is such a pleasure to hear these days.
I have never posted before, but when I saw this thread, I knew I had to respond! My husband is the best when it comes to my cakes! I just started taking orders for them recently, so we're pretty new at it! I tell him what the customer is looking for with design and colors and sits on his computer and designs a cake for me! He always does the construction of the cakes (dowel rods, helping with stacking) and covering in fondant when I need an extra pair of hands! When a customer comes to pick up a cake, he is right there, telling them how it has been put together and how it is to come apart, where the dowels and separators are. He puts up with my frustrations and runs out to the store on a moment's notice! He's alwys surprising me with new pans and things, telling me he's "investing" in the business! He even made up business cards for me. I always tell him he needs to put his name on the cards too!
When I was married my husband was a little too supportive and optimistic. He seemed to think that I was going to make us BAZillionaires. Whatever!!
I must say that I have one of the sweetest and supportive husbands ever! He has designed my dream kitchen (for when we win the lottery of course!!) and is the first to promote my cakes to his friends, family, neighbors, and anybody else he comes in contact with.
My hubby does all of the above, too! I think he enjoys the "extras" when I am done with experimenting or projects, and he is always talking to people at work about my latest inventions. And, our toddler enjoys my hobby, too, as she gets to share with my husband when they "taste-test".
