Hmmm...I am pretty new to cake decorating, but I get everything so far at JoAnn's Michaels or Hobby Lobby...(I live fairly close to KCI airport if you are at all familiar).

There's a neat store in old Lenexa, called Baker's Rack. Geaorgia (the owner) used to decorate cakes, now she has the store and teaches some classes. She has tons of cutters, candy molds, cake pans, boards, boxes, icings, fondant, candy melts, and everything else. It's really a great store. I'm not sure what the best way is for you to get there, but the only way I know is: take I-35 (south for you) and take the 95th Street exit. Go west. At Pflumm, go North (right). Once you cross the railroad tracks, you will see a shopping center on your right. She's located in there, toward the end- white store with awning. She's closed on Mondays.

Anyway, welcome! It definitely has been pretty warm here.

cakecre8tor it sure is hot here....but this year definately seems hotter than most! There may also be other places to get cake stuff that I just have not stumbled upon because I have only been doing this for a couple of months. PM me if there is anything I can tell you about the KC area...lived here all my life and I would be happy to help in any way I can!

bbelias, I love your butterflies! They are so uniform! icon_smile.gif I made a couple of cookies to post, but I went out to run an errand and when I came back, they had gone missing! icon_confused.gif Aaarrrggggh. I hate it when my dog eats my homework! icon_cry.gificon_mad.gif I still have some dough left, so I will try again tonight. I'll just have to lock the dog outside til I get my picture this time! icon_surprised.gif

cakecre8tor - love the hives and bees, what a great idea adding the chocolate bee!
bbelias - great butterflys and I join momsandrean in the uniformity comments!

I have not made my bugs yet (just love this theme for August)- hope to next weekend. I am VERY impressed with all the cookie postings this month, I fear I will 'bring down the average' but will gamely post my buggy cookies when they are done.

Beautiful work everyone -- I LOVE the honey bee hive cookies that two of you have done and the chocolate transfers have given me oodles of ideas...hate that I posted my pathetic little bees but I am learning and I am sure learning from all of you!

Also, I have to go get a butterfly cutter because I am really enjoying all the butterflies as well...lately I've been making my own templates but I think a butterfly cutter would come in handy!

Keep up the great work guys!

Everyone has done a WONDERFUL job on their cookies!
I especially liked the ones done by cakecre8tor and GetFrosted.
I bought the Wilton Bug Cutter set today. I'll have to bake a batch o' bugs.

I'm a novice...can I play too? This is my first royal icing attempt. I'm getting the hang of the right consistency, I think.

These are for my DD's 8th birthday party on 8/25. She is having a nature themed party with our family while we're camping, so these butterflies might end up on the cake.

Any pointers would be appreciated. Thanks,

Well I think the cookie club has achieved its goal of increasing our creativity, and trying different techniques!! You all stepped the cookie making up to a whole new level this month! I can't even pick a favorite!!

Please keep in mind that this is my first time trying this technique--stenciling. I have never stenciled anything much less a cookie, but I ran across this stencil in ACMoore and knew I had to try it for this months theme!

No- fail cookies, MMF icing, and americolor stencling

I love everyones cookies. I like to see all the different techniques that people use. Thank you to everyone for sharing their ideas.

newtodecorating - the stencils are really cool! Will you tell us a little more about how you did them?

NEWTODECORATING Posted 23 Aug 2006 , 5:55pm
post #114 of 165

I was at ACMoore's and they had the foam paint brushes on sale 20 for $1.00 and stencils 25%off. I thought there is a cake/cookie idea here somewhere!

I used the same round cookie cutter and cut out circles of MMF while my cookies baked. When they came out of the oven I placed the MMF on while still hot. This is the fastest thing in the world!!!

Then I have one of the Wilton paint pallets for candy making. One drop of Americolor in each well and a cap full of clear vanilla. Then use regular stenciling techniques. Dip the corner of the foam brush in the color and dab it off on a paper towel to remove the excess and then place stencil over cookie and dab the foam brush over the stencil. It was a small stencil and I needed to tape off some to the wholes so I wouldn't get color where I didn't want it. I think with some more practice I could do ok with this technique. thumbs_up.gif

The cookies all look so great.

Lacie, love the colors and the presentation on your cookies!

NEWTODECORATING - I love the stencil idea. How long does it take for the coloring to dry?

I have good intentions for making August cookies yet. We're in our third week of school here with soccer and scouts beginnining. Zzzzzz....

Tara your soo funny no apology needed! Can't wait to see what you come up with! Are you in for Aug. or waiting for Sept. or are you like a few other cookie folks -not naming names- tapedshut.gificon_lol.gif that keep promising cookies, but never manage to get pics posted icon_confused.gificon_lol.gif

Kos- drying time isn't bad. I was just working on the cookies pictured-DH and DS ate the rest with just the MMF circles on them. I did all the grass and by the time I got back to cookie 1 it was dry and ready for another color. thumbs_up.gif

No, Kos, I haven't done them and won't have time, methinks.....I might be able to squeeze them in next week but I have a baby shower cake this week for my SIL (catering) and next week a small anniversary cake for my neighbors. I might make everything up and just do 2-4 cookies, I have the cutest design and hope it will work but it may take some time (which I don't have icon_lol.gif ).
