Made some pink fondant (for flip flops -- see my pics for type of pink), but the next day the fondant had lost its color and turned nearly white again. Also, the violet fondant and turned blue.
Anyone know why this happened? Oh, and the cake was not sitting in direct sunlight.
Thanks,
S.
any kind of light, and esp. florescent light (which is high in UV rays) will fade fondant.
doesn't even have to be direct sunlight...
just near a window, skylights or in room w/ lots of windows.
only sure defense: put cake in fridge or in a closed box
(to see this in action for yourself....take kid's construction paper -- red or blue -- tape up pieces in various locations around the room. cover HALF of each piece w/ something opaque, like cardboard. Wait a week and take the cover off -- and you will see that half the sheet is faded. Extent of fading will tell you just how much UV is getting to that part of the room)
I have the most problems with pink. I made cookies for a sale in a local hospital and set up the night before (just the cookies for display). when I got there the next a.m., the pink cookies were nearly white. Must have been the fluorescent lights!
What great information--who would have thought?!!!
I learn something from this site every single day!
Ditto...made a bunch of mauve fondant bow loops and they faded to greyish white color. I kicked myself for not putting them in a box like I usually do.
