HI
i'm making a cake with custard filling for a friend's son. I'm just wondering, since i would like to use fondant for the outside covering, what do i use to glue the fondant to the cake. Do I have to make a little batch of buttercream for it? or use simple syrup, or does mousse work? since i have some leftover mousse from another cake. thanks for all your help.

what i did on mine was, I put a buttercream icing (just like you're icing the cake) and put the fondant on it. On the bottom, I spritz water (my friends put thin piping gel) as glue at the bottom.

I'm not sure how everyone do theirs but thats only my opinion (thats what I did on my cakes). HTH.

Buttercream is the best thing to use to adhere fondant.

If it's a non-crusting buttercream, the fondant will adhere to it right away. If crusting, spritz some water on the buttercream before applying the fondant.
