What can I substitute in a receipe that calls for marscapone cheese? can I substitute cream cheese?

I think it would depend on what your recipe is. I've read people use ricotta, cottage cheese or cream cheese. Some use cream cheese blended with whipping cream and sour cream.

Texture wise you should be fine, but they taste QUITE different...what are you making? Tiramisu??

cream cheese + 2 tablespoons sour cream can be subb'd for marscarpone cheese, but the marscarpone itself is always better.

You can whip up some ricotta or cottage cheese and use cup for cup, or try a blend of 8 oz cream cheese with 1/4 cup (or less) heavy (or whipping) cream, butter, or milk, to get the consistency that you need. Hope that helps!
