I have been practicing making edible butterflies from the wafer paper.
I just don't know if I am putting enough piping gel on them. Should they still be wafer/paper thin or should they be a little thicker? Also, do you have to make a body or can they just be attached with some icing on the back and stick them onto the cake? Another questions, how far in advance can you make them and store them?
I appreciate any advise on making these butterflies.
Thank you,
Debbie

Hi Debbie,

http://cakecentral.com/article16-How-To-Make-Realistic-Edible-Butterflies.html

I have had good luck just placing the wings in buttercream. However, because buttercream is so greasy, the butterflies, had some trouble staying in place and holding thier shape. Use royal icing if you can.

Also, you probably don't want to add too much piping gel, as it would have a difficult time drying and would make the wings curl. I use a good size blob to brush on, so there are no streaks.
