I've got a request for a cake. The customer brought in a photo box that she wants me to model it after, that's fine, but the thing is - she wants the same glossy look that's on the box... on the cake. I told her that I'd get back to her later today and I just need to know if there's a way I can get this complexion or should I just try and work something else out w/ her.

If you're using fondant, maybe you could coat it with piping gel (maybe not, never tried it). Would she be satisfied if you used lustre dust to make it shimmer? Those are my only ideas. Good luck.

I would try piping gel. What is it going to be made of? An edible image?

Can you send us a photo. I do not think piping gel on an edible image would work. Are you doing an edible image? Need more information. Wont the gel smudge the image

Use fondant and cover it with some glycerine and water mixed together for a glossy shine

If you are using fondant....you can use a mixture of corn syrup and vodka and brush on and it will give a sheen. 1 tsp corn syrup to 1 tsp vodka. Don't know if this will work on top of an edible image.

I've seen the glossy look. It's done by adding pearl luster dust to the fondant.
