If you had to make deep red Chinese characters on the side of a white fondant covered cake, how would you do it? I can't decide if I should try to make them before hand and put them on or risk screwing them up by putting them directly on the cake. How would you do it?

I would make them out of fondant too. Make a few extra in case there are some that break. If you make them ahead of time that will cut down on your work when decorating!
