hi i was just reading about another fondant like icing called SATIN ICE and i was wondering if this can be made at home, and if anyone has the recipe. thanks. betty

Hi BakenBetty - SatinIce is a brand name of a ready-made fondant. You can find their website for more info:

I don't remember seeing any SatinIce recipe, but there's one that is similar to it and it's called MMF (Marshmellow Fondant). You can find this recipe in this forum. I haven't tried it yet, but I soon will. I read that it's time consuming as it takes alot of kneading to do, plus you have to figure out how to measure the ingridents for certain amount of cakes, like 4 or 5 tiers.

thanks surfergina, i thought satin ice was a new type of icing.(duhh)lol i should of read the article better. just to let you know MMF is not all that hard to make, its the only fondant type icing that i will use. it takes me like 10 mins to make and about an hour in the fridge. it tastes a lot better then the stor bought stuff. oh yeah and thanks again. betty

Hey Ladies, I use satin ice fondant and it
tastes like MMF. It's not expensive and easy
to use.

bakenbetty - you're welcome! icon_biggrin.gif True, MMF does taste better than any store bought fondant. With large cake orders, SatinIce saves me time, especially the tiered cake orders. I use MMF on smaller cakes.

I thought I had saw a recipe for satin icing on this site and here it is
Satin Icing

Serves/Yields: 750g/ 1 1/2lb
Prep. Time:
Cook Time:
Category: Fondant/Gumpaste/Sugarpaste
Difficulty: Easy


This covers a a 23cm(9 inch) round cake. Great for decorations.

60grams(2 oz) butter or margarine
4 tablespoons lemon juice
4 1/2 cups icing sugar, sifted ( approx)
few drops of food colouring (optional)
Can add flavourings


Warm the fat and lemon juice in a pan until melted. Add 1 1/2 of icing sugar and heat gently, stirring until dissolved. When mix begins to simmer at the sides of the pan, increase heat slightly and cook for 2 minutes until it boils gently, do not over boil as icing will be too hard.
Remove from heat and add 1 1/2 cups icing sugar, beat thoroughly with a wooden spoon then put in a mixing bowl.
Gradually mix in enough icing sugar to give a soft dough.
Dust surface with with icing sugar and knead until smooth, add colourings and flavourings if needed.
Wrap in cling film, will keep in fridge for about 6 weeks.
