Help please... I am lacking creativity today big time... what does this cake need? It looks so plain on the top but not sure what to do to it.
I was thrilled that I FINALLY got the hang of the basket weave and the reverse scroll edging but it still looks like it needs something. Any suggestions??

I really don't think it needs anything else - it looks lovely. If you wanted to make it look a little busier you could pipe a lighter border around the inside of the existing border, leaving out the corners where the strawberries are. It really does look good and chocolately!

I would leave it alone. Sometimes the best cakes are the simple ones. It looks great with the strawberries.

I think it looks fine. I think of the times when I've added because I thought something was too plain then went and made it too busy.

I like the fork and plate idea Wilton Lady! I've eaten a few strawberries already this morning. Really yummy!! I get to enjoy this tomorrow for my nephew's birthday. Triple chocolate fudge cake with strawberry filling and obviously REALLY rich choc BC icing. I'm gaining weight just looking at it!

Thanks for the suggestions... maybe I should just leave it as is. I think all of the allergy meds I'm taking are affescting my judgement and creativity today.

My choc icing:
2c. butter
1/2tbsp vanilla
1 c. dark cocoa powder
2 lb conf sugar
hershey's extra dark syrup- to thin icing- I never measure this-so I can't give an exact measure- maybe 1/4 c??? Don't add too much or the icing will be too thin and slide off cake (had this happen a couple of times)
2-3 tbsp milk to finsih thinning

It's georgous. Not plain at all.

When I ask my dh this question he usually says: "quit while you are ahead". or "sometimes less is more".

So put it away your stuff and pull out the plates, forks and a nice pot of coffee or jug of milk whichever you prefer!!

Good Luck.

I think it is beautiful the way it is. If you really have to add something else, why not a border around the message?
