I've seen several people say they add Crisco to the chocolate so it doesn't get so hard. Can anybody tell me how much to add? Thanks!

I've never had to do this. However, I found that using half Dark Cocoa CandyMelts and half real chocolate chips made a nice textured chocolate that has a wonderful taste!

As far as I know, Oreo still makes their own. However, with the molds you can personalize them. I have the smiling face mold, and took some to a gathering over the weekend. There were tons of desserts, but the dipped Oreos were the talk of the event.

i love to make chocolate dipped oreos! i tried crisco in the chocolate once and it actually wouldn't let the chocolate set up. so much so, that the chocolate melted while sitting out at room temp and was a huge mess.

i tried 60% cocao ghirardelli chips and it said to add 2 tbls of crisco to 2 cups of chips and i don't think i even added that much. yuck!

now i have to figure out what do with this ginormous bag of chips.

i use paramount crystals. i get them from onestopcandle.com for 1.25 a bag. love them!

I guess I'll have to try using the paramount crystals. Usually when I dip strawberries, I use crisco and then put them in the fridge and they harden up and make like a fudge on the outside, but maybe that wouldn't work for the oreos, especially if they would be kept outside.

I'm not familiar with paramount crystals. What do CCO's, I just used wilton's candy melts but, I want to try them with a better chocolate.

I have always used either candy melts or chocolate bark and never had any trouble with either.

Stacy all you need is a basic mold wich you can find in www.3dmolds.com and candy melts. Or if you prefer to use real chocolate you can as well, tempered first!

Just melt the candy/chocolate and pour some into the mold, add the oreo and top with some more chcolate. I always tap the mold a couple of times to remove any air bubbles, then put on freezer to cool.

Hope this helps, this is my method, mayby someone else has another to share.

Paramount crystals help melted chocolate pour more smoothly, but ultimately lead to the chocolate setting up harder. The result is that on some things, the chocolate can come off with the first bite.

Crisco helps the melted chocolate to pour more smoothly, too, but the final result is a coating that is softer and more fudgey--and it doesn't all come off in the first bite.
