Have anyone ever added flavor like orange or strawberry to the no fail sugar recipe. I want to make some roll out strawberry cookies and I need to know if it's ok to do it that way..
I don't see why it wouldn't work. As a matter of fact, I think the recipe says to either use vanilla extract or any flavor you want. I bet orange or strawberry would be good.
Haven't tried it myself though. Maybe someone else has though....
I don't see why it wouldn't work. A lot of people interchange vanilla and almond extract. I hadn't thought of using the other flavors in the no fail cookies. Now, I want to try adding the orange and use a vanilla flavored icing! Let us know how your cookies come out!
I know that some people add almond extract in place of the vanilla.
Recently I added raspberry (syrup) to my batch of no-fail cookie dough and it was wonnderful! It turned slightly pink, which was actually what I wanted, so it was fine.
I have added lemon, rasberry and almond flavorings to mine. I also add flavorings to the icing. My favorite has been lemon cookies with lime icing yummy! I am doing some cookies for a couple of wedding soon and one has lemon lime cookies and the other wants a mixture of lemon lime, orange and oops I forgot the third I better check on that Anyway have fun with them.

I just made a batch of No Fails last night and I added Orange extract and I LOVE it! I haven't iced them yet but I am thinking about putting in a little 'tropical punch' flavor and see how that works. But I would highly recommend the orange flavor for the No Fails!
I tried strawberry flavor today and I didn't really get a lot of the strawberry flavor, but I did get this unique taste.. If I didn't bake them myself, I would not have known it was the strawberry flavor... But they were very good. Next time I will add more flavor in it to get more of the strawberry, but they were still awesome!!!! Tomorrow, ORANGE
I really need to stop, I tried orange today and they were even better than the strawberry.. I added orange kool-aid to powdered sugar and sprinkled it over the cookies. I can't stop eating them... Tomorrow, raspberry!! This time, I'm sending theses to my DH in Iraq...
For a really fresh flavour, zest citrus peel and add it to the recipe. Lemon zest, lime zest or orange zest are great. Rub it into the white sugar and the flavour REALLY comes out!
I've added coffee syrup, organic dried rose petals, dried lavender, crystallized ginger, fresh mint, maple syrup....there are no rules!
I love the idea of addding flavored syrup - I am a big fan of almond and orange extracts but the syrup sounds great - I will have to try that on my next batch.

I use a recipe that is similar to NFSC and, similar antonia74, I add lemon zest, orange zest, or sometimes cocoa. I've never tried rubbing it in white sugar. That sounds yummy
When I do add extract...its Nielson-Massey (sp?) all the way!

I have used all of the above in my RI and some in my dough. Like Antonia, I love making flavored sugars as well and using zest as it really imparts a great taste.
I've added half a package of strawberry jello to the NFSC before adding the flour.....they were electric pink (which is what my DD wanted) and they tasted AMAZING!!! Very strong strawberry flavor, but OH so good!

I added an entire pkg. of lime jello -- to 1/2 recipe of NFSC. It tasted fine, but the cookie WAS a bit more chewy. Also I would have liked the green to be more of an intense color. I made dinosaurs with it, that was fun.
lemon emulsion in sugar cookies is delicious!
I have heard on here that the emulsions are really good. I'm going to have to try some. I have just added flavorings to the cookies (like lemon) and they were good - but not as good as they could be.
Where do you buy lemon emulsion?

I always add a tsp. of lemon extract when I make sugar cookies. I started doing this because I was adding a bit of lemon juice to my royal icing and I wanted the flavor to permeate through the cookies as well. I've never done them any other way. Although...I'd love to experiment with some princess emulsion and some other flavors.

Somehow they do soften in storage, and especially once RI or glace is put on (i guess it absorbs some of the moisture from the icing).
Maybe they need to come out of the oven sooner?
