How long will Wilton meringue powder keep after you've opened the can?

According to Wilton, Once the can is opened, use it within 1 year.

Thanks! I could not find anything on the can that told me how long this stuff would last. I guess I should mark a date on the can.

I read recently that you should also keep it in the refrigerator...
