I am making my first sheet cake. I keep seeing notes about using flower nails for more even baking. Is this necessary? What would I do? Thanks..you folks are the best!

Hi Joenshan.

The flower nail is used to help the cake bake evenly. Just grease it and put in in the pan upside down! icon_smile.gif

You can use either a flower nail, or the heating core. Sometimes when you are baking a cake bigger than 10" the center doesn't cook thoroughly. By using some sort of metal to help distribute the heat in the oven allows it cook perfectly! I ALWAYS use one on any cake that is 12" or bigger!
HTH!
