Marzipan Vs. Fondant

Could someone please tell me what the difference is between Marzipan and fondant? Is it the same thing? I did some research, but I quite don't understand.

Also, do you all make your own fondant, or do you purchase it pre-made? I saw in my local cake decorating store, they sell some pre-made in a box, its enough to cover an 8 inch cake. What are your thoughts on this?

Marzipan is basically an almond paste; fondant is like a rolled sugar icing. If you can find a good brand that tastes good and you like, more power to you! To me, the fondant is hard to make, so I stick with the MMF.
