Hello everyone! I have a big question. My brother in law loves to go fishing at Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. He and his friends make a big deal about it, like renting a big boat with a skipper. And they bring alot of fish home.
So, I was wondering, if it was easy for me to mold a fish cake and decorate it? I have never carved or molded. I have never used fondant yet. How would you cover the fish cake? Can you just use buttercream or does it have to be fondant. What is the easiest way to make this cake at least look like a fish? LOL! Sorry for all the ?'s but I'd really like to try it for his birthday at the end of this month-May. Thanks in Advance! ~Josie
I looked in the Galleries and searched for Fish Cakes. There are lots of great ideas. Maybe you could find one you like in there and then ask the person who made it to help you!! Good luck!
I was just looking at them and I see some using buttercream but I guess I do have to ask how they got the ridge look on the body. Thanks lkuptain!
I think one of Collette Peters' books has instructions. I'm thinking it's colette's cakes.
Good luck! I have heard it's not nearly as hard as it looks.
Whoa, dsoutherngirl! That looks like a hard fish to do. I might have to get that book with instructions, but I might end up doing the cake below: Looks to be the easiest fish cake. Since i'm still learning!
But I will be making a striped bass. At least try to attempt it. LOL!
Oh I forgot to include the link to the picture and the decorator name page.
aww..that's a cute catfish! The bass sounds good too. Good luck!
Thanks dsoutherngirl! Now I got to get pictures of the striped bass. (sighs) LOL. ~Josie
Hahaha! That is a cute fish cake in the pan! Something different! I was just on that site the day before yesterday and missed that one. Thanks for the link. ~Josie
