I saw tons of cute cakes on here with deers and the background was Camo.

How do you do the camo ? Is there a certain technique ? Do you have a pattern ? Or what.

I am doing a deer cake this week-end for a 13 year old, his mother wants a sheet cake, so I thought this design would be great.

If anyone could tell me how it is done, I would greatly appreciate it.

I have pm'd a couple of people but I haven't had any response yet. So hopefully someone else can help out.

Thanks, Lisa

BC or fondant?

BC -- just pipe random odd shaped pools of color and smooth

fondant -- see this thread

and if possible borrow a hunter friend's jacket to get a reference for the pattern.

I found it to be very easy. I used a 3 or 4 tip and piped ciruclar type designs all over the cake in black. I then piped in tip 16 stars using green, black, tan, and brown in alternating place. I have a pic in my gallery. Good luck!

Should I still use the crusting Bc or another ?
It doesn't want to pool out very good, appears to thick.
But if I thin it down, will I still be able to smooth it out, without sticking to the roller, or whatever I use ?

I did a camo cake a while back. All I did was load my bags w/ my different BC colors & put #4 tips on all of them, piped a random design but made sure the same color wouldn't run together. Filled it in & used a paintbrush to smooth it. Once I was done w/ the whole cake, I use a Viva papertowel to smooth the whole thing.

my take on a camo cake:

I don't know if you have access to an airbrush, but that's how I do mine for the background then stripe my greeen bag with brown and black for the border.

There are a couple of different ones in my pics. Good luck and be sure to post your pic when your done. K'ly

I recently did a camo cake for a co-worker. As for the pattern, I just did a random print using black brown and green with tip 16. I believe I have a picture. hope this helps!
