Ok I'm on a mission now we chit chat about cake balls all the time on here....
We all get a good giggle every now and then about them... icon_rolleyes.gificon_biggrin.gificon_rolleyes.gificon_biggrin.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_rolleyes.gificon_biggrin.gificon_rolleyes.gif

Well I think we should come up with a catching new CC Cake ball name....

My hubby said cake droppings ... icon_eek.gif UHHH NO! ( to think he was proud of that) HAHAHAHA MEN!

Then my friend said Delicious disasters! Ok thats's cute but I know we have a lot of creative people and we all have disasters and what elese to do with them then to make cake balls...

SO anyone got suggestions on some new creative names for them... Maybe we can have a cake ball namin contest or summin...

Put on your thinkin caps Guys and gals! Cause we gonna rename our balls! icon_biggrin.gificon_lol.gificon_biggrin.gificon_lol.gificon_biggrin.gif

My boyfriend hates food with the word ball in it, so when we go to a restaurant, we try to rename foods in the menu that have the word balls in it. Here's my go at the cake balls:

Cake Bites, Cake Popables (like the little Hershey candies), Cake Holes (like donut holes), Cake moursels

Great topic, I have thought about calling them something else becasue I have customers that like them and it seems un marketable to call them cake balls. I like Cake Truffles too!

This one isn't much better than cake droppings but my dad calls them Cake Bombs because of how the sit in your stomach after you eat them!

I love the idea of cake truffles too. I was trying to think of how to market "cake balls" and it just didn't seem to appealing to hear. Thanks for making this thread. It helps out a lot!!!

I personally think of something a lot fancier and more gourmet when using the words "bon bon" or "truffle."

So, I was thinking...there's a little donut shop where my mom lives and they sell donut holes covered in drizzled chocolate and coconut, and they call them "little uglies." Why not call rename cake balls "little cuties?" Just a thought...

I think little cuties sounds cute....but it doesn't really get it out that they are cake...so how about little cutie cakes?

Not a serious suggestion, just to make you guys laugh. I made cake balls at Christmastime, so my husband said to name them Reindeer Poop. He told our friends at the Christmas party and now everyone asks when I'm making Reindeer Poop again. icon_biggrin.gif

I like cake truffles, because that's how I always describe them anyway. The inside isn't as stiff, but it's almost as rich and I think the way I make mine that they resemble truffles. I like cake drops, too, just not quite as much. icon_smile.gif

I like the "cake truffles" as well. Where on this site is the basic "cake ball" recipe posted? I have a cake disaster (sp) that would make wonderful cake truffles from.
Thanx!

I called them cake truffles, but recently I had a discussion about them with my old pastry instructor. He said "truffle" is not an appropriate name, because the origination of pastry truffles is ganache. So he told me I should call them "mock truffles" if I wanted to use that term. I was like, "So what, who cares if it's not made of ganache." Well, he gave me one of those looks he was known for, so I told him I'd call them something else. So, I said "What about Bon'bons?" Nope, Bon-bons are actually a trademarked name and are the pasty desserts with ice cream. He sure wasn't making this any fun for me!!!

So, I'm not saying that you can't call them that - but, well, I told him I'd come up with another name. PARTY POOPER!!!

Anyway, I tried to hold a little contest to see who could come up with a name at my friend's work - here were a few they came up with

cake bites
cake drops
cake treasures
cake babies
baby cakes (I think this is a trademarked name also - those diaper cakes)
cake droppings (wasn't too keen on that one - but I laughed)
cake nuggets
cakelets
cake holes
sweet bites
cakeables
