I am doing a batman cake for my son for his birthday. I want to do the gotham city buildings out of cookies and royal icing. What tastes the best and is not too hard on teeth? These cookies will be given to the kids with their piece of cake.

TIA,

I think my favorite icing is rolled buttercream with royal icing accents. I made some cookies the other week with glace icing and that seemed a but too sweet for me.

I like royal icing for decorated cookies. hard on top layer but underneath is sof. You find this recipe under recipe or go to articles for "how to decorate cookies" by Antiono.

I agree with leana. Here's the recipe I always use - it's the one by antonia that was mentioned: http://www.cakecentral.com/cake_recipe-1983-Royal-Icing-for-Decorated-Cookies.html

Antonia's dries nicely, too, faster than I expected.

My preference is for Alice Cookie icing. I use that exclusively on my cookies. It's stackable but still soft but can be a bit more challenging than royal icing.

Oh, thank you all. I will try Antonia's recipe this evening. I just made my cookies. I need to run to the store for cream of tartar. I am making the Batman cake this weekend. I will post pics as soon as I am done!

THANKS! icon_biggrin.gif

I just made the no fail cookies and antonia's icing. The icing was so easy to work with and tasted really good on the cookie! By itself it tastes kinda yucky, but once it's on the cookie, it tastes GREAT!!

I've only used Royal icing as well. I really like it and so does the people I make my cookies for. It's really not as teeth hard as everyone thinks it is. One tip....My cookies were hit by the sun while drying and the icing color changed, like spotted. And it still looks ok, but the icing become a little powdery when you bite into it. It's hard to explain, other than that, I love royal!
