Do You Do Anything Special For The Bride?

I was just wondering if you do anything special for the bride... a letter, cake cutting chart, ect. Do you provide a box for the top tier? I just want to put together a little something. What do you do? Any ideas???

I don't charge for the top layer. I haven't provided a box, but I probably should. I also dont charge for delivery/setup either. If I get particularly close to a bride or know the family I will get them nice card. And yes, I always leave a cake-cutting chart if the caterer is not cutting the cake. I once made a special 6" for the mother of the bride who didn't get her choice of cake flavor and I felt sorry for her since she was the one paying for it!

I would provide a box for the cake top and instructions on how to wrap, freeze and defrost the cake for eating later on. My bride didn't want a cake to save so I just returned the packaging for her cake topper (that she had supplied) so she could safely store it.

I provide the top cake-no charge-, cutting chart for the server, box for the top cake, packaging for the ornament that the bride provided, a thank you note which I leave in the box and a monagrammed gift up to $50 depending on the price of the cake. I don't mind the gift because I will get orders from the wedding.

I provide the top tier including the box at no charge. I only leave a cutting diagram if the person cutting the cake isn't a professional server. Before the wedding I provide the bride with a final package and letter stating what she ordered, a diagram of her cake, what I will supply and what will be discussed with the coordinator at the time of setup and delivery.

I always leave a box and freezing instructions for their top layer. If they request I have left a couple cake boxes for extra cake (as part of price of cake), and regardless of who is cutting and serving the cake, I always leave a cutting diagram. I do this because I had a caterer try to tell a bride I shorted her on cake because they were serving very large pieces and didn't have enough to go around!

I also make a list of what is to be returned to me and I tape it to a tote they can just put everything in and return it to me. I also note that plates and pillars and such need to be washed because too many times I got stuff back a week or two later with icing all over it...and it's just nasty!

I always get in touch with the bride a couple weeks out and let her know what I am leaving and what I need back as well, and I am sure to touch base w/ someone at the reception when I set up.

My cake lady gave me a thank you note after she set up my cake. She also didn't charge for the top layer (it was a dummie, not a real cake- i wanted to keep it forever). No boxes. But boy did she do a wonderful job!

I offer to make a replica of the top tier for free for their first anniversary. Generally, I try to have them cut it along with the rest of the cake because freezing something for a year and then eating it kinda makes me gross out.

If they chose not to have me do another cake for them, I don't charge for the top tier and provide a box. I generally leave cutting instructions if a professional server is not cutting the cake.
