I have 3 cakes to be delivered about 80 miles away (1hr and 30 minutes). Originally I was planning on meeting halfway to hand off but the MOG wants me to deliver to ensure all arrives safely. So 3 HOURS on the road for a cake! icon_eek.gif

I have no clue how much to charge as I normally don't go this far.

The total cake order is $270 if that matters.

My delivery rates are $25 for a determined local area and $1 per mile (one way) outside that area. It may seem like a lot, but I consider the cost of fuel, wear on the van and my time away from my family.
Good luck deciding.

I agree with pinkflamingo. With gas prices these days (our area is at $2.74 a gallon) and having to go that far you need to make it worth your while.

Definitely....$1 per mile, one way. That would be an $80 delivery charge, which will seem fair. They should be more than willing to pay for that. If not, then suggest they come and pick it up. A 160 round trip roadtrip, plus careful driving to ensure safe delivery will seem worth it for $80. Good Luck! Let us know.

I agree... $1 per mile sounds reasonable to ensure safe delivery of the cake.

You could use the Federal guidelines for mileage allowances, set by the IRS. Right now, I think it is 44.5 cents per mile, so you would be charging a $71 delivery fee.

Here is the URL for the IRS standard mileage rates:
