Ready Made Pudding Packs As Filling?
Decorating By monizcel Updated 27 Mar 2007 , 1:32pm by nutcase68
I've read on CC that if you use ready made pudding packs as a filling for cake it needs to be refrigerated. If I mixed the pudding with buttercream would there be enough sugar present to prevent the filling/cake from spoiling.
I want to use the pudding as a filling this weekend...I'm not anticipating too much cake leftover but just in case there is, I'd like to know what to do.
TIA

I've wondered about using ready made puddings as a filling also, because I have very limited fridge space.
If you call customer sevice # on the back of the package, they should be able to tell you.
There are ready made puddings that don't require refridgeration. I think Handi Snacks brand is one of them

You are right. they don't require refrigeration when sealed. I buy these for my kids to pack for lunch all the time. I noticed that once they are opened, they can get a bit of water on the top surface if left out for a short period. I would imagine this "sweating" would make your cake wet.
Did that make sense?
I use them all the time in the little cakes I do and as a precaution I tell the people to refrigerate them because they have pudding in the middle. Better safe than sorry.
