Hello everyone,
First of all I wanted to say thank you to Adven68, SquirrellyCakes, TexasSugar, Bunchy, BlakesCakes and everyone else that helped me with my yucky bow forum.
Well, the cake is finished. With all the work I did on the bow I never used it. First of all the bow turned out beautiful, but I didn't look right on top of the cake, so we used the ribbon bow.
I was so nervous for this cake. It drove me crazy for a month before the wedding and the day before the cake was done and still I was not happy with my results. I know we are our worst critics but I did so much patch work (no one saw it tho) and my instructor told me not to use dowels, well USE DOWELS, cause it started to sink. Not much but I noticed to chalk it up to lesson learnt. Also, I have swarn that I am never making another huge cake like this again. The cake was 16", 12", 8" all covered in fondant. Well covering a 16" fondant cake was harder then I thought and heavy.
The picture doesn't show that I have silver dragees, the flash screwed that up. But all in all I think I did pretty good. Please give me your honest opinion cause crazy as I am I have another wedding cake due in May ( 2 tier 10" 8" with fondant tulips). I would like to fix my mistakes before then.
Sorry for the long story.
Thanks for taking the time
Sylvie
I think it came out great - love the black and white. The only suggestion I could make, would be next time, make that second tier is a little smaller (so it had space around all corners). Squares are tough to stack when you start turning them, sometimes you have to go the next size down. You did a great job - a 16" square is hard to cover in fondant!! Congrats!
Deleting duplicate topic,
so here's what Laney'smom wrote in the other one:
Congratulations! It is very elegant and well-done! You did a fabulous job!!! An instructor that advises not to use dowels? Interesting.
Anyway, it turned out just lovely!! You should be very proud.
This cake is gorgeous I love the colors, the detail it is very well done! Beautiful job!
I think it looks great, and personally....I prefer the look of a fabric ribbon to the fondant ones!
Very nice!! I agree, however, with Allison that the next time you should use a smaller second tier.
I just LOVE the details and can totally see the silver balls on it. Very nice!! You should be proud of yourself!

It's beautiful...and I can't believe the instructor thought you wouldn't need dowels!!! It's gorgeous.

Wow! I always thought I'd never see a wedding cake with black decorations that I would like. Well, You definately changed that!!!!!!!!
Your cake is beautiful! Pat yourself on the back 2 times for me. GREAT JOB!!!!
Really pretty, I feel your pain, I have my first wedding cake due in 30 day and I am really nervous. Square as well, only she wants fondant ribbon around the tiers. I am still unsure as to how it is going to look but now that I see yours, you have given me confidence, you did an outstanding job. I love the colors and the detail work. Beautiful!!!
I love your cake i think you did a great job .....
The only thing I would do different is maybe more of a random pattern on the top and bottom tiers or more of an obivious pattern.
but beautiful either way .....
good luck on your next cake
What a very unique and GORGEOUS cake! I can see why you were stressed out over it! It looks beautiful and you should be very proud of your accomplishment!
wow, so elegant! I like everything about this cake! I love it!
It's Gorgeous!! Congratulatios!!
