I have made various types of cakes with general success, but I constantly fail at plain white cakes, and so must embarrassingly rely on vanilla box mixes. Now, however, I'm making a cake for a major event, and refuse to use a box.
I need a vanilla cake recipe that is flavorful and sturdy, but it doesn't have to be extremely light. Please help!

"A Better White Scratch Cake" in the recipe section is my favorite white cake recipe ever.

Hope that helped.

For home made taste with box mix reliability, I use the doctored White Almond Sour Cream Cake recipe:

(If you don't like almond, use vanilla and/or creme bouquet.)

It's really very good icon_biggrin.gif
