I made my first fondant cake! I made it for my boyfriend's birthday and it is a 3-D bassoon. I've been planning for over a month and spent a week working on it. I had this picture of the finished cake in my head and it actually turned out better than I imagined. He and his family were very impressed. I'm so proud of this cake.
Edited to attach pictures (figured out how to shrink them).
Wow! That's a cake? I never would have guessed that there was cake in there! lol You did a great job. I've never seen a cake like this before. Very cool!

I made it for him as part of his gift, so I didn't charge anything. Just out of curiosity, how much do you think it would go for?
Thanks, everyone, for your nice comments. I appreciate it.

regarding a price, how many servings were there? what was your expense and how many work hours?
thats a specialty cake that you wont find in common grocery bakeries so its ok to charge more for a custom cake. i typically think its fair to go cost times 3 or 4...then figuring the profit and your hours....is that what you are comfortable charging on a per hour basis?
lucky recipiant. its a beautiful work of art. nice attention to detail!
Great job Britton! I love the detail!!
For pricing 3D cakes you have to figure in how many hours you spent on the cake and factor that in. It's typical for me to spend 15-20 hours on a 3D cake!
