I have a bride who wants something jewel like on the vines of her cake.....any ides on what to use?

Should I just clump large sugar sprinkles???

There are actual edible jewels you can buy and you can also buy the molds and make your own using melted starburst candies. I don't have my laptop with me or I could pull up the sites with the info. icon_sad.gif I can get it for you in a couple of days but I'm sure someone else has it bookmarked too!

What size of jewels are needed? The only premade ones I have found were 1/2 to 1 inch in size. That was too large for the design I was trying for. You can buy molds and make your own. Some people have made fondant gems painted with colored piping gel to give the shiny effect.

I hadn't even though of trying to make my own! Where do I find the molds?

Yea, the premade size would be too big, I am thinking tiny!

Here is a website that sells edible jewels. I have never ordered from them, and I did see someone post the other day about being disappointed about their quality, just so you know.

Do you guys think it would work to just grow some sugar crystals and break the peices off? I am talking, I need itty bitty shiney peices. The bride wants like white vines on the cake, and was wanting something shiney kind of where parts of them connect, so I don't want the jewel to totally take over, but just accent.....would not cooking it make it have a different reaction to the buttercream do you think?

I got mine from from Jeff the Chef. I got clear ones and I used one of the larger ones as an accent to my Dragon and Bride cake...in the gallery
