I've seen some pictures of shoe cakes on this site. Can anyone tell me how to "build a shoe" for a cake?

Help! Someone asked me to make an athletic shoe cake for their birthday. Will someone share some instructions or ideas with me?

Are you wanting to build a cake in the form of a shoe or are you wanting to make a gumpaste shoe to go along with a cake?

They have asked for a cake that is in the shape of a shoe. He's bringing me a picture of his tennis shoe and wants me to try to duplicate it.

My initial thoughts are to bake a couple of sheet cakes, freeze, stack and then carve.

I wanted to see what methods other folks have used to do this as I don't have time to do a trial run and need to "get it right" the first time.

Thanks,
Sharon

This cake is in the gallery, and upon reading the comments, it appears that Antonia has already posted instructions in the Forum.
I would check that out if I were you.
She built a GREAT shoe cake!
