I was in the process of making a guitar cake yesterday and my friend stopped by to pick something up. I was standing outside near the door talking to her and my girls (3 1/2 and 18 months) were right inside the door. When my friend left, I thought....it sure is quiet. I asked the older one where is your sister?/!!?? Sure enough she was helping herself to a little cake and sharing it with the dog!!!! Fortunately, I was able to salvage it, but I gave her a big "That makes mommy so sad" speech and she was thoroughly sad! Needless to say she didn't eat much dinner last night!!!!

OH...did she ever have a field day! LOL! I'm glad you were able to save it. Your guitar looks great thumbs_up.gif

Oh my gosh....you are lucky that she didn't give the whole thing to the dog.
Isn't it funny how kids seem to be the quietest when they are getting into trouble? icon_wink.gificon_lol.gif

I love the guitar cake. Poor baby wanted some cake.

My son did that when he was 2. I had just made a kahlua cake (lots of alcohol) and told him that he couldn't have any because it was for mommy and daddy. I went to the bathroom and when I came back there was a hunk missing and cake all around his mouth. I watched over him like a hawk (because of the alcohol), he scared me to death.

Yikes that is scary!!! Yeah, I need to make some cake for them more often. The 3 year old asked the other day, "Are Audrey and I going to get to eat some of this cake mom?" She was so hopeful, but I had to tell her no, this is for someone's b-day! I do let them snack on the tops of cakes I cut off, but there is nothing like having a cake decorated for you!!! icon_razz.gif

I bet they would love a little 6" cake made just special for them.

Me too, but I think cakes are like meals....they always taste better when someone else cooks them and you didn't have to do the work. Man, now that I am a SAHM I REALLY appreciate and miss my mom's cooking....just to have someone cook for you is so nice!!!!! icon_cry.gificon_lol.gif

flayvurdfun Posted 2 Apr 2005 , 2:42pm

Cant even tell that its the same cake.....got to love those little ones!

CIndymm4 Posted 2 Apr 2005 , 3:13pm

I had a similar incident, except it wasn't a child but my cat. I had made a cake and it was cooling on the cooling rack and my son called and needed a ride home from work......so I decided to cover the cakes with a dish towel, when I got back the cat was lying on the cakes....needless to say I had to start over.....she had never done that before, but I had never left cakes unattended either so I learned my lesson! My children are all grown now, but still they want to pick at my cakes!

m0use Posted 2 Apr 2005 , 3:29pm

Cindymm4- I just had to laugh. The cake was probably really warm and so your cat probably thought- "Oh what a nice warm spot that my mommy left for me to sleep on.." icon_wink.gif

PureShugga Posted 4 Apr 2005 , 8:11am

Oh now that's just downright a good chuckle there!

flayvurdfun Posted 4 Apr 2005 , 8:16am

Thats one way to get a cake for yourself kitty!!!!!

veejaytx Posted 5 Apr 2005 , 8:52am

Just a little taste, Mom! You did a great job on recovery...the guitar looks great.

As far as worrying about the alcohol content in your cakes, after the cake is baked with the alcohol in it, it is no longer "alcoholic" since the alcohol evaporates in the baking.

I can also see my cat sitting on a cake like that, he seems to think that everything I do, I do for him! Fortunately I've been able to convince him that the table and the counter tops are off limits to him, but if I weren't here...?

This is very encouraging, to learn how much we can salvage from what appears to be a real disaster at the moment! Janice

I had done a baseball cake for my niece...she's all tom-boy...and the next morning I am getting for church, and my son (3 at the time) comes in and says, "um...yummy icing Mommy". Took me a minute to realize what he meant, and then I took off running! Sure enough, he had raked his little finger all the way through the baseball! I was able to salvage, but he had to apologize to his little cousin for the mess! Same time...so hard to be upset at them...they can't resist! I've learned to keep them up higher now! Nice salvage...I bet too she wasn't hungry for dinner that night...the dog shouldn't have been either! icon_smile.gif

How sweet.
You manage to make the guitar very nice.
You may have to make a cake just for your girls.
My boys ask the very same every time I make a cake for someone. And they are now 9 and 11.

my fiancee....what to do with him>?i made a cake for a couples 50th ann. What did he do? As the cake was just cooling he decided he wanted a piece. He cuts a big hunk out of the MIDDLE not the SIDE.. he likes the middle of cakes. Then spreads my icing all over it. Unfortunately i was all out of powdered sugar. And i only had 20 mins to get this cake done and into the car. I yelled at him so bad,, now he doesn't come into the kitchen when im cooking or i yell at him... im mean i know it lol....

If my husband ever did something like that, I would be chasing him around the house with my kitchen knife...ok J/K, but yeah I think you were justified in yelling at your fiance like that. Too bad he had to learn his lesson the hard way icon_wink.gif

Chrystal Posted 24 Apr 2005 , 8:01pm

he then bought me flowerd to justify what he did.. But when you only have a few hours flowers do not help! It definately doesn't buy any time!! HE definately learned his lesson... now he asks if i will make him a cake or really anything... its kinda funny though!! lol

crylynn Posted 25 Apr 2005 , 6:53am

I am laughing over the cat because my cats would do that, so I will be keeping an eye out now, and the fiance because it sounds like something my sister would do. Family members, if we didn't have them, life would be so much less exciting!!!!! icon_biggrin.gif

Chrystal Posted 26 Apr 2005 , 12:02am

i guess we wouldn't laugh as much if we didn't have those little stories to share about accidents.. im making my first wedding cake for a lady and im scared to death that im gonna mess it up or that im gonna drop it lol... but everyone here has given me so much confidence

JessicaM Posted 26 Apr 2005 , 2:04pm

I have enjoyed all our little stories on this thread and wanted to share mine...

my dear friend who also does cakes had baked a half sheet for a bday cake and her 2 yo son was settled in watching tv so she took a quick potty break. When she came out of the bathroom, she noticed a big hole in the middle of her cake! Zach had gotten a big serving spoon from the crock on her counter and a big TW bowl from the cupboard--the only things he could reach/get into--and scooped a big spoonful of cake into his bowl and was enjoying a snack w/ his tv show! She said it was so funny, she couldn't help but laugh, and be thankful he used a spoon and bowl and actually didn't make a mess! Thankfully she had extra cake to patch it!

Now my DH, was fiance at the time (and I still married him!), knew I was having a heck of a time one weekend with too many cakes and too little time. I was doing my last cake, it was a half sheet for a 1st bday and I had a little 3" round for the smash cake. I went into the other room to get some supplies from my cupboard and when I came back I noticed my smash cake was gone...ugh! I said, what did you do with my cake, this is not funny, I have no extra cake, where'd you hide it...thinking he was just messing with me. Well, I couldn't understand his reply b/c his mouth was full of my smash cake! I could have killed him! I really had no extra cake from all I had done that weekend, not even anything in the freezer, so I made him mix up another cake and redo my smash cake and he made the rest into cupcakes for himself while I iced the big cake! I was so mad, because just the week before I had a 6" leftover and he said he would eat it, it sat there until it molded b/c he didn't eat it! icon_mad.gif GRRRR!
