I am making a first birthday cake this week and my customer is concerned that fondant accents will be an issue for the smash cake. I certainly don't want to put the 1 year old in harm's way, but when I serach this site it seems like many people are using fondant accents like flowers or bows on first birthday cakes.

I can use all buttercream decor, but really like the way fondant accents look better. Maybe I am just scared of my buttercream skills...

Any thoughts on fondant for the first birthday?

i would go ahead and put them on for the 'looks' sake of the cake but make sure they are big enough so it isn't too difficult to pull them off once smash time begins!!!
thats what i plan on doing for my daughters first bday in august
