You know the dessert with the crushed pretzels for crust, cream cheese middle & strawberry jello top? The pretzel crust is supposed to be crunchy & the strawberry jello is supposed to stay on top. Well I made it for Easter & the strawberry jello sank to the bottom & made the pretzel crust soggy icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gif
Any ideas on how to prevent this?

Did you bake the crust before adding the balance? My recipe calls for baking the pretzel crust for 10 minutes at 350* and cool before adding the balance.

I don't know if it is on here or not but I can certainly give it to you, as well as submit it to Cakecentral! Just let me know!

I've made that salad/desert many times and never had the jello go to the bottom. I just looked at my recipe and it doesn't have you cool the jello/strawberry mixture before adding to the top of the dish. So I guess I'm no help either. Sorry.

Strawberry Pretzel Dessert

2 cups crushed pretzels (in plastic bag w/rolling pin)
Add 1/4 C sugar and 1/2 cup margarine

Press into 8x11 inch pan and bake 10 minutes @ 350

Meanwhile mix together:

8oz. pkg cream cheese
1 cup pwd. sugar
8 oz. whipped topping

Spread on pretzel crust.

Top Layer:

Combine 2 sm. pkg. strawberry Jello
2 C. boiling water Stir until dissolved
Add 2 10 oz. pkg frozen strawberries
Pour Jello mixture after it is slightly thickened
over cream cheese layer.
Refrigerate until firmly set.

Strawberry Pretzel Dessert

6 oz strawberry Jell-O
2 cup boiling water
3 cups fresh sliced strawberries
1 cup cold water
2 3/4 cup crushed pretzel sticks
3 Tbs. sugar
1 stick butter, melted
8 oz cream cheese
3/4 cup sugar
Large size cool whip

Dissolve Jell-O with boiling water. Add strawberries; mix till strawberries have dissolved if using frozen berries. Add cold water. Refrigerate till slightly thickened.

Mix the 3 tbs. of sugar, pretzels and melted butter. Press into 13 x 9 inch pan. Bake for 10 minutes at 350. Allow to cool.

Blend cream cheese and sugar. Add cool whip; mix well. Spread this mixture onto cooled crust. Pour Jell-O on top of cream cheese mixture. Chill until fully set, at least 4 hours or overnight. This is a great recipe!

I cooled the pretzel crust, but not the strawberry/jello mixture. This is only the second time I've made it & the first time it turned out great. It's so delicious because the pretzel crust is salty & crunch & is so delicous with the cream cheese layer & the jello layer. Don't know what happned this time!!

I just noticed the second recipe I have calls for the jello to be refrig. a little. I will probably try that next time.
