i love the way fondant looks over a cake, but i am sooo skeptical about fondant. i hate the wilton brand!...but i love the look!!! is mmf really that good to eat!!! i was wondering, should i even bother?
I hear it is very tasty, but with the recipe I did yesterday it didnt come out and it tasted like the 10x sugar....but i am sure it was me I have heard nothing but goods things about it.. I heard it tastes like the circus peanuts if you like those.. Its cheap enough, why not try it?
I just tried MMF for the first time this week and I think it's great!!
I was using the "Virgin Ice'" brand from a local cake bakery and the taste of it was not too bad. So compared to that, I would say the MMF is definitely better tasting, but not extremely noticable. Although the best part of MMF, to me, is that you can add any flavour you want to it!!
It is most certainly cheaper, and you can get it paper thin for roses. I also read on this forum that you can roll it out to 1/8th inch thickness, whereas with the store bought, I rolled it out to 1/4 inch which meant using more.
I've definitely been sold on MMF!! Thanks to everyone on this forum for all the great advice and tips.

MMF is really easy to make, and a whole lot less expensive than store bought. I've used it a couple of times on cakes and I would agree that its flavor is very similar to circus peanuts. It's very easy to work with but be prepared for it to be a little sticky. I've had luck w/ adding more sugar and using crisco on my hands.
I haven't yet had a chance to flavor mine but I'm sure that would be good. Anyone out there have suggestions of what to flavor it with? Extracts or oils?
I didn't have a problem with it being sticky. Maybe it needed a bit more confectioners sugar. It taste's a whole lot better than the wilton fondant and it is easy to work with. My favorite is still Satin Ice but for single cakes and at home cakes I will use the MMF. My son and nephew loved it!

o.k. tomorrow, since i don't have any cakes to do...a first!...i am going to try my hand at mmf. i can just foresee the problems i'm gonna have!

I have not worked with fondant at all, so here's my dumb question: Is fondant covered cakes easy to cut? I remember seeing a show on Food Network and they were highlighting the foods of Disneyland/world. They showed how they made a wedding cake, covered it in fondant and when they went to cut the cake, they took the fondant off before cutting. Just curious.
They probably took the fondant off because not everyone likes the taste of fondant. Sooo they may have been using a really bad tasting fondant.
Hi. I made my first batch of MMF today. It was fabulous!! It came to gether easily and tastes great!! I even let my hubby and 3 kids try it. It was a hit with everyone. I would encourage any one who wants to try this to do so as soon as you can. I thank everyone who has ever posted anything about this magical mixture. Although Satin Ice is still my favorite..I think MMF is terrific and a lot cheaper! You know what they say..if at first you don't succeed, try, try again!
A couple of you have mentioned liking satin ice, what it this? Can you make it or do you have to buy it? Where can you get it?
Satin Ice is the name of the brand. It is sold in cake decorating stores or can be purchased online.
I've tried MM fondant, it was good. Easy to make and cost less. So in future I will do more cakes with MM fondant.
MMF is a hundred times better than the Wilton Fondant. I will never buy the Wilton stuff again. I used the Lorraine Oils to flavor mine and it was absolutely delicious.
